[TANKS] Re: Motor Noise

2009-01-30 Thread Don Shankin
I was going to suggest that you buy some diodes as well, but it looks like
you're all set. What type of caps did you buy? (electrolytic, ceramic,
expensive mylar...?)

Also, I don't know what you paid for the caps from Amazon, but if you've
never been to the site before I usually get all of my stuff from
futurlec.com. They are by far the cheapest place I've ever seen for general
components all the way up to things like ADCs and microcontrollers. The
only downside is that the shipping can be hit or miss sometimes, and on one
order (out of dozens that I've placed) I had to wait for a while. Otherwise
they've been awesome. Also, I think they're based in australia, so you guys
may have better luck with shipping down there

[TANKS] Re: Weight distribution.

2009-01-30 Thread OdysseySlipways
looking at the assembled set, i would think if you were to connect the
brackets above the wheels (guessing this is where you'll attach the springs
somehow) like you did with the central housing (part your holding) with a piece
 of
tubing, i think that would help stiffen the entire unit.

another thing i just saw, where the brackets attach tot eh central housing,
is there any way to add a piece of tubing between them like you have further
up? i would think that this mounting point, as is, could be a weak point if
the wheel set where to deflect too much from one side to another causing the
corners on the main plate and the brackets to bend a bit. but with the piece
of
tubing behind it, it should add more support surface for them - if you can
follow what i'm trying to explain (not always good at explaining things when
not in person).

other than that, the only other think that i could see playing into any of
this to cause failure would be the pressure from the springs themselves. as to
weight displacement of the tank for running over say a branch or rock, the
set of wheels going over the said item wouldn't be bearing all of the tanks
weight as with the sprung suspension would help distribute the weight to a
point

at least that's my stab at it.

[TANKS] I'll forget tomorrow...charging question

2009-01-30 Thread Thomas Lum

I was charging my batteries with a smart charger and it gives me two
options, either charge my 2 batteries as stand alone batteries or I
can charge them with a jumper in between one battery's positive to the
other's negative (series). What advantage if any does one set-up have
or the other.
Thanks
Tom

I broke one open. I'll take pictures of it tonight and post them.
Didn't see any capitors in the one's i bought off ebay. Bought a
whole bunch of 0.1uf cap's off amazon. figured i'd try to install
them to keep from frying relays. I also bought some relays with
diodes in them, in another attempt to keep me from frying relays.
I'll have to see if all my little bits work soon. I figure its this,
or start running my tank at 12v instead of 24v.

[TANKS] Re: It lives, Dr Frankenstein! It lives!

2009-01-30 Thread Thomas Lum

In practice, sometimes 5' becomes a lot less, especially with fast and/
or heavy tanks. Mr. Tyng has been known to ram a few "items". The
Cromwell is a force to be reckoned with.
