[TANKS] Re: More progress for me, up to a track mockup
Yes lifting heavy weight tank up a table is not easy. Myself I have install a 12v. ATV winch on my garage ceiling, I just drive my vehicule under it, set the chains and press the button to lift it up, then roll my tank table under it, lower it and voila, remove the chains and its done effortless. I remember before I install the winch I had to strip down all I can to barely be able to lift it up a table, my back thanks me everytime I use the winch. Nice tank! I see you have the Anvilus controller board combined with the C6C, very good. I use the same setup in my StuG. A deadly combination. If there was an enemy around, in my case. Perhaps the resin or molds were very cold? Chris why don’t you just finish T007 ? Its been almost finished for years and looking at the pages Id have thought a few nights work will have the turret in working condition .Almost all the work has already been done. http://www.rctankcombat.com/tanks/T007/07Marker-large.jpg If you make a 10 pb magazine and connect the gas you have a FA . Chris I don’t want it to look like am having a dig at you , we will never meet , I live thousands of miles away , so you might ask what do I care ? but I think its such a shame to see an asset like T007 never to be completed when someone could be using it for battles. What shade of grey your tracks are is meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Why don’t you either sell the Tiger to someone with the inclination to finish it or ask someone to help you finish it. Either way T007 should be battling , its what this hobby is about. Or am I wrong ? Neil R --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You are currently subscribed to the R/C Tank Combat group. Neil R actually, there's nothing in the turret. the only thing that was in is was a meg-shift tilting motorized thingie. i have been trying to get the guy the next street down from me to wield me a bracket so i can mount the marker in it (waiting on the same guy as i want to get the suspension arms tack wielded too). if i can get him to do the wielding, i'll have something to put together and finish. as of right now, the tracks are being worked on (I have yet to hear from smooth-on as to the 2 track links i sent to them last week about the resin). believe me, i have a yard waiting to get tilled by the Tiger (paying for 75' of new copper water line this past month from the house to the water main brought my fundage down to ziltch). [TANKS] track links
ya just had to ask, couldn't just let me just post a picture when i had the tracks assembled no biggie in the picture you see the links i have cast so far and the track guides are them smaller pieces in between the 2 rows of links. i am going to look at placing an order from microfasteners for small bolts, but not sure what ones to get. I know what threading i need and length, but what i am not sure of it, do i look for a allen head, regular screw head (most likely a pan head if i do) or bolt head. now i don't think it'll be a bolt head as i don't think there is the room for the socket to fit between the track cleats. the pan head screws i think would be ideal as i could just use a screw driver to clean out the slot of dirt build up, but the allen head would prevent any tool slippage while assembling or making a repair. but then again, i have to go with what i can find in the size i can use ... your thoughts? i myself am leaning towards what they call a button head _http://www.microfasteners.com/catalog/products/SSCSBA.cfm_ (http://www.microfasteners.com/catalog/products/SSCSBA.cfm) ya, the more i look at them and the more i think of it (before sending this - adding more text) i think i will go with the button head. i may need to use a small detal pick to clean the out to get a alen key back into them, but i don't have to waist time counter sinking each track link's holes - just tap the guides and start screwing ... (in a week or two) think i should add lock washers or just a drop of white glue (the resin may be tight enough without the need for glue aid) Chris, _Odyssey Slipways_ (http://hometown.aol.com/odysseyslipways/index.html) **A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. [TANKS] Re: track links
Not as a dig, but the problem with thinking too much is that no work gets done when you just think about it. I sat around thinking about ideas, but until I built them did I find that they either worked or didn't. I kept telling my self that I didn't want to have to re-work everything and leave all kinds of empty holes in the wood of my tank. Well, there are a bunch of empty holes in my tank. No way around it in my eyes. You have to build a solution to figure out if it works or not. Maybe I just don't have the level of committment to spend tons of money on resin for track links and the patience to cast them all, but strangely I don't have a problem with buying two sets of track materials and building two sets of tracks. Even when I build something wrong, I feel like I am at least getting somewhere. The wrong somewhere leads me to the right somewhere. I get side-tracked easily so if a specific task starts to take too long (like casting track links), the project gets put off for something easier. It only took a short time to re-build my tracks because I could stay focused on a short term goal. What's wrong with rust? Tanks are rusty...even the newest ones. That tank will be history long before the bolts fail due to rust.
