[TANKS] Re: update from Anvilus Machine Works

2009-04-15 Thread Steve Tyng

As the ORIGINAL importer of the M01 motors I can tell you that it was
a pain in the ass dealing with Unite Motors. They only like dealing
in container quantities and only accept wire-transfers for payment.
Did I mention the sorry excuse for packing that they ship the motors
in (that usually results in some damage)? Or how about when the Unite
rep tried to get me to transfer payment into his personal bank
account? They only ship small quantities via DHL Air Express which
costs bucks from Shanghai (almost doubled the motor cost if I recall).

I'm surprised that Joe kept up the import business as long as he has!
He's a better man than I! ;-)

Not that I don't like buying from Joe, but that was kinda my take on it. It
seems that at the time Joe started selling them no one stocked them, but now
they seem to be more readily available. I do know Joe did it just to
benefit the hobby and out of the goodness of his heart. I for one would
back Joe's decision to not stock them anymore just because I know it puts
the financial burden on Joe.

Marc,

They cost me $80 each to build. I only sell five to ten per year.

I must build in batches of ten to get quantity discount on components
and PCBs. I do not have $800 to build ten and have them sitting in

I was using a 1:1 gear ratio on my M01s. I just ordered sprockets to gear

be able to tune this pretty much at will. It cost me $6.00 for the

Steve,

I'm using 41 pitch chain coupled to the 9 tooth 42 pitch sprocket on the M01
motor. I have an 11 tooth 41 pitch sprocket on my 3/4" drive shafts. It
gears them down a little more, but the Sturmtiger has no shortage of torque.
