[TANKS] Reasons why track chain attachment throws off its sprocket

2011-01-25 Thread Enzo Salas
Hi,

I use chain attachments with sprockets for my tracks and the problem
is when I run my tank; the chain goes off my idler sprocket.. I
already have two tensioners for each side.

Any suggestions?

Enzo

[TANKS] Re: Recommended circuit breaker to use

2011-01-25 Thread Steve Tyng
Alligator clips are not recommended. Most people use Anderson
PowerPole connectors in the appropriate amperage rating:

http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/connectors_powerpole.html

I went a different route and bolted trimmed down Ground Bus Bars to
my battery terminals and and direct wire to the batteries:

http://www.altestore.com/store/Enclosures-Electrical-Safety/Miscellaneous-Electrical-Parts/Busbars/Square-D-PK4GTA-4-Space-Ground-Bus-Bar/p2640/

The bus bars are available the same place you've been buying your
circuit breakers for a few bucks. You can see the concept in this
pic:

http://rctankcombat.com/tanks/T040/27batteries-large.jpg

This method is more compact than the Anderson connectors but takes a
little more time to replace a battery.

Thanks for the inputs Steve and Frank. I'll do the things both of you

Is it ok to use alligator clips for my connections? What do you
 recommended?

Subject: [TANKS] Recommended circuit breaker to use

   Hi,

   I use 2 pcs. 12volt 18ah SLA batteries in series for my 2pcs 24vdc
scooter motors and I bought this AC circuit breaker with a rating of
30 amps ,but  the problem is it automatically turns off after running
   tank for about 5 mins.

What type or rating of circuit breakers to use?   Is it normal for my
   wires to be hot?

Any form help will be greatly appreciated

2011-01-25 Thread Cobra
It works!!! I finnaly went out and tested the 24v250w motoer from and
old busted electric scooter I found in a rust pile, and it works! It
has an 11 tooth sprocket and an 80 tooth sprocket on the wheel to give
a final speed of about 350rpm. Now the planning begins for a support
or armored vehicle. As well as a field artilary piece. Not that I have
ambitions or anything, I havent even gotten my turret rotate and gun
elevate working on the Sherman yet.

Original plan was for a Kettenkrad, but motor is is ilsuited for it,
now thinking of Willys, Humvee, or Cadillac-Guage Ranger.

Does it come off when going straight, or just when turning ? You may want to
make the front and rear and sprockets are as aligned as possible.

Re: [TANKS] Reasons why track chain attachment throws off its sprocket

2011-01-25 Thread Thomas Lum
Attachment chain actually has a lot of lateral play for it's size. If your
bogies aren't keeping it tracking correctly especially on turns at high speed,
there is a good chance of a derailment. Also, although those sprockets are big,
there isn't as much engagement as you would expect, the teeth aren't that deep
and if the chain doesn't come in square to the sprocket it causes a lot of
trouble.
