1 - what is that from, i know it's not Kingdom of Heaven and now it's
buggin' me cause i can hear it being spoken, but not as to who it was

2 - I kept seeing images of Duck tape as i was reading (it's said to be
able to fix anything - i own a roll, but haven't seen it in years)

just a thought, but what about a muffler clamp? the U-bolt part rather than
that angled bracket you have? you might be able to use 2 of them along the body
of it

2012-08-30 Thread TyngTech
So that 1/8" aluminum plate is holding the thrust load from the ring gear?
All sorts of loads going on and from all directions in that assembly. To
bad there's not more meat around that aluminum casting to drill and tap a
couple more holes.

John, your turning into a first rate boffin!

[TANKS] Re: Stug III

2012-08-30 Thread Fred Thomson

Hi John,

I'm hardly an old hand but I am happy to share. I'll upload the hull,
suspension, and track drawings and post a link. One thing I HAVE
learned (Frank, and others, re-iterated this until >I< got it), the
more planning you do the better. If you click on the PDF it will open
in adobe on your desktop.

Hi Chris,

I found the line drawing, bought a model, got the original specs, and
scaled it out from there. I have no plans to make scale drawings of
other tanks as it is a lot of work. The only reason I am doing the
stug is because I am building one. :-) I have just started on the
superstructure drawings so those will be a while before they are
ready.
If there is enough interest, I'll ask Frank and if he agrees, to add
them to the "How To" section.

-Cheers,
Fred

[TANKS] Re: Stug III

2012-08-30 Thread Fred Thomson
Some caveats

  * You are welcome to use the documents with the realization that you
accept 100% of the risk and responsibility for doing so. The author
assumes no liability of any sort. These are NOT intended as a
comprehensive guide to building a 1/6th scale r/c paintball tank.
Checking the accuracy is up to you.

  * The document labeled "An alternative idea for road wheel bearing
mount and suspension" is an idea for using two self-centering bearings
mounted to the inside and outside of the hull wall with no internal
rail mount for the inside bearing. This will put a sh*tload of strain
on the hull wall and should only be considered if YOU build the hull
strong enough to support this.

  * There is virtually no mention of construction material or a parts
list. That would be entirely up to the would-be builder.

  * Suggestions welcome but don't take it personally if I don't act on
it. It's not you. I'm just busy with my life.

  * Criticisms should be written down in ink on paper, folded neatly
into a one inch square and swallowed whole and this too shall
pass. :-)

Cheers,
Fred

They would not stay in place. The critical portion is the front angled
area. Down force needs to be applied there to keep the plate and motor from
separating. The attached U channel keeps the angle from sliding forward.

Yes Greg, Das U Bolt is one of my favorite movies. LOL.

Steve, thanks for the increase in grade to Boffin First Rate. Been a long
time coming.

To all who are celebrating the Labor Day weekend have a safe and enjoyable
time.

Anyone heard of Tanki Online? I discovered it in Miniclip.com, which I
rarely visit nowadays. It's probably the best alternative I'll ever find to
World of Tanks. My computer will run Tanki fine, but not WoT. :(
