Re: [TANKS] Suspension Guidance

2017-09-28 Thread Caleb Smith
Hi Pat,
No suspension is definitely the easiest and fastest way to get a tank
going. And while it might not be the most scale or smoothest ride, it sure
beats not having a moving tank at all! I tried to incorporate a simple
suspension on my Locust during construction but later went to hard axles
when I kept having issues.
If you end up using wood for the TTS track I'd recommend you not use wood
for the tracking tabs. Wooded tabs (in my experience) break too easily and
can be a pain to replace. Instead, use 1/2" by 1/2" aluminum angle cut into
half inch pieces and secure them on the wooden track with a screw and a
little E6000 glue. If something goes wrong with the track and some tabs get
bent, use some pliers to straighten them. If they break, take out the screw
and replaced it. Much easier to fix than a wooden tab broke off half way
with a brad sticking out of it, especially when you're in a hurry.
Hope to see you at a battle someday soon.

Thanks for the response! I had emailed Joe and my son and I will be trying
to get a running lower chassis going with straight axels. I will upgrade to
a working suspension when we can. I have been trying to figure out how to
pour my treadmill track cleats in resin but so far I do not think I have it
figured out. I may have to go the hardwood method and then figure out the
resin pours. I found a local craft store that has rubber mold and resin
kits; just need to take the time to pick some up and experiment. Still not
sure how to color the clear resin black to save having to keep repainting
it.

See ya,

Re: [TANKS] cheapest easiest way to build one of these machines

2017-09-28 Thread J-MaxRC
Hello Weston!

There no cheapest easiest rc tank I would say... Having tracks make
everything hard and complex. Building the hull is the easy part whatever
you do but the tracks, suspension, and motors arrangement is the hard
part..!

the PzIII probably not the easiest with the number of parts envolve in the
suspension but that your choice asnd that all rigth..!!

You will want a true ESC like the sabberthooth 3X32 from dimension
engenering (that's what I like to use since it's the cheapest and reliable
at least for me...) if you want true control of your tank and it's easier
to get the electronics working with a receiver and everything..!

Building the hull from wood only is very easy and no need of extra
renforcement at all, that what I did with my RSO tractor and T-70 tank

Details like the comander coupola are just extras, your biggest goal is to
get the hull running on it's tracks... the rest is ''figurable''

For the Tracks, i'm not sure thats hinges and bolts are the cheapest ways
or the easiest way, I'm using TTS (Tyng-Track-System!) And it did the job
well so far!

I would recomand a fix suspension to start (easy and cheaper) Your first
goal would be to get the running gear working the rest of the hull and gun
and details arethe easy parts.!!

If you got other technical questions I can try to help you out as much as
can.!!

Good luck!
