Re: [TANKS] wiper motor servo - HELP!
Steve Tyng posted about this a few years ago: Here's an interesting article on modifying a standard servo to drive an external gearmotor. Basically the geartrain is removed from the servo which is then used as a position sensor for the gearmotor. The servo electronics are used to drive an offboard h-bridge. http://www.fieroaddiction.com/servo.html An h-bridge that would work well with this setup (the Tecel D200 referenced doesn't appear to be available anymore). http://www.robotpower.com/products/simple-h_info.html I've always wanted to give this a try but haven't had an opportunity. Neat idea though. Re: [TANKS] Re: live chat?
I belong to a robot-building group that has a chat feature on their club website. It's available for use 24/7, but is mostly used on Friday nights when we schedule a chat session from 9PM eastern time until whenever. That has been very popular and helps to share info in real time while increasing a sense of comraderie within the group. We've been using the Flashchat software, and depending on your server connectivity, it can pretty easily handle 25 users, and likely more. Re: [TANKS] Re: CAD, who needs it? (WARNING KV-2 content)
I don't post often here, but I have to say what awesome workmanship this is in PVC. Looks great Derek! I've started a new robotics project and have been exploring using the grey PVC for the frame and some structural parts. It's been great so far. I'll need to do some pocketing in some places to lighten it a bit because this is very heavy stuff, but very easy to work with, cuts and routs well, and is very rigid. I'm impressed with the nice bends Derek was able to get. :) Good stuff. I've gotten my PVC sheet from Industrial Plastic Supply in Anaheim, CA: http://www.indplastic.com/index.cfm?id=%3C!id!%3Efuseaction=browsepageid=61 They offer several different sizes and lots of choices for thicknesses, and are a great company to deal with. Their regular prices are very close to the sale prices from freckleface.com, but offer free shipping with an order of $120 or more. I've used them for all my plastics purchases for the past few years and have been very happy. Also, I have a pair of those Globe motors as well. They were offered through eBay at one time, and later skycraft surplus had them. the R2 Builders Club was using them as a possible choice for leg rotation to achieve the 2-3-2 extension of the center leg, but the vertical forces are too great for the shallow gear teeth. They would be well-suited to your application though, since they were initially made to turn satellite dishes like a turntable. If anyone wants one (or both) I'd let them go for $45 each, plus shipping. Email me directly if interested. Steve On Dec 7, 1:12 pm, Derek Engelhaupt tan...@gmail.com wrote: Don't think they are needed. Even with no glue, this thing is STIFF, strong, and heavy. The screws holding it together will also stay in. Once you glue PVC to PVC, it creates a very strong bond (properly prepped of course). The PVC will break before the bond will. I will be adding a brace or two in the motor area. The floor plate is 1/2 rather than 1/4 as in my drawing. I was going to get out the scale today to see how much it weighs. I absolutely love the fact that I don't have to fill-in and sand wood grain! Derek T065 On Mon, Dec 7, 2009 at 11:38 AM, Chrysanthos Kanellopoulos xchr...@otenet.gr wrote: Great job. Very clean. At first sight it looked like aluminium to me. Will PVC hold after you glue everything together? I'd like to see a some 20 x 20 mm reinforcing beams along teh corner between the walls and floor (as much as the suspensions allow) and a couple of beams/bracers across that would connect the walls together on top, right under the ceiling/deck, so I don't have to worry about this beauty. (WARNING KV-2 content) Well, since I told Frank I was too busy to finish getting my designation for the M113 in order I thought I would share what I was doing this weekend. My Type 1 PVC sheets in 1/4 and 1/2 arrived on Friday so I sat down Friday night for about two hours and drafted some plans on my office type desk in my garage for the KV-2. I basically used my T-Square to turn my desk into a drafting table (no computer needed or fancy software... :) ). Saturday about mid-day I started building and 48 hours later I wanted to share the results. It is made from PVC sheet so the gray color is not paint. It's just mocked up at this point, none of the pieces are glued together, but I would say it's a pretty damn good start to a nice build if I do say so myself. I still have to order some parts like sprockets, motors, and attachment chain (still have any laying around Will?). While I'm waiting for the extra part needed for the build, I was going to work on the turret. Anyway, enjoy! The pics were to big to attach Derek T065 (and soon a KV-2) http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s265/nitzerebbhead/KV-2/kv-2a.jpg http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s265/nitzerebbhead/KV-2/kv-2b.jpg http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s265/nitzerebbhead/KV-2/kv-2c.jpg http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s265/nitzerebbhead/KV-2/kv-2d.jpg http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s265/nitzerebbhead/KV-2/kv-2e.jpg http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s265/nitzerebbhead/KV-2/kv-2f.jpg http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s265/nitzerebbhead/KV-2/kv-2g.jpg -- You are currently subscribed to the R/C Tank Combat group. [TANKS] Re: High Power Servo Hack
I've been wanting to do this as well for a project. Every time I look into it however, I keep running up against the Tecel website, which turns up an access forbidden message on the D200. I make a note to call or look into it further, then other things come up. I have several motors I could use for this— does anyone have any info on Tecel?
