I completely rewired the KV-2 and beefed up the motor mounts. I even
slapped a coat of paint on it. It's been running well.

Hello! I'm also still in the ''business'' of building 1/6 scale tanks! Got
big plans to modernise my SU-76, rebuilt the T-70 (since it got pretty
messed up at the last battle in pennsylvania And I did not do much
since except gaterring parts for it...!), also got two other 1/6 scale
tanks with parts and plans laying around and I got a small 1/9 scale mostly
3D printed T-60 light tank to work on as a prototype for 1/6 3d printed
parts..

Sadly life got in the ways for the past couple years, but with the new
world we now live in, I might get some time to work on stuff with another
full lock down in my place (Quebec, Canada) to be announced tomorrow...
So. we will see!

Hope that some more of you have the tank flame burning somewhere!!! Maybe
to get more activity in the near future..!

Wish everybody the best for the new weird year ahead!

I'm still around. A few months back I went to a local 1/16 tank battle day
and brought my 1/6th KV-2. Everyone was impressed with it even though it
is a battle tank and wasn't built as a rivet counter. Still into tanks,
but most of my tanker time is now in 1/16th scale. Currently building an
SU-152 tank destroyer conversion on a Heng Long 1/16 KV-1.

[TANKS] hello

2017-03-11 Thread Ryan Alcorn
Hi. I've been lurking around the internet watching the hobby grow for over
10 years now. I've always wanted to get into the hobby myself. I am
starting my own tank build. Currently in the design stage for the chassis
and suspension. I have so many questions! The most relevant right now.

1: How active is the hobby on the west coast?

2: My buddy and I are planning to build FPV into our tanks. I don't see
that addressed in the rules.

3: We would like to have a two man crew operate each tank, with a
driver/commander and gunner. Is that allowed?

4: How "accurate" does a scale model have to be? Our plan is to make a well
designed RC tank first and make it pretty later.

Basically I want to know now if our plans will fit in, early in the
process, so that I can design accordingly, or just do our own thing. I'd
definitely prefer to join in if you will let us.

Congradulation Pat!!

You are now entering the incredible (and a lot of times fustrating) world
of RC Combat Tank.

On my part, I do think that the tracks are the hardest thing to get
rigth! They are directly affected by the suspensions but gettings the
tracks rolling good on soft terrain at the width of the jagtiger will be a
good acheivement...!

As Loïc said, is compagny do sell very nice suspensions units (I got some
on my SU-76) they are incredibly versatil but a little expensive...!!!

Going for your own design surely meen that you will need few try before get
it rigth... You will need to think simple and being capable to easily swap
parts on any case it's not exactly rigth.!

The Tyng Track System is for me the best track system as I use it on all my
models. It's simple and solid when you got enought pad thickness and good
quality strap...!!! Spaces between pads are what you need to worry about (I
meen precisely all the same)!!

Anyway, if you need help you are at the rigth place!!!

Good Lick

Hello all:

I'm Pat from State College, PA. I have been interested in 1/6 models for
two or three years but I was never able to find a group anywhere near me to
join. I luckily found your website and contacted Frank who put me in touch
with Joe: he lives about 5 miles from me. My son and I visited Joe and we
are both hooked. I especially want to be involved in your battles; the idea
of driving our creation around the woods and hunting down other vehicles
sounds great.

My son turns 12 next week. I bought him a Taigon 1/16 airsoft RC tank so
that he has something to run around the yard. For his birthday I am taking
him down to the AAF Museum in Danville Va for their IR battle weekend. A
fellow from the Philly area is going to let us try out the IR system on
their 6k sq' battlefield. I think my son will enjoy that a lot. I am hoping
this project is a way to get him interested in mechanical work and building
instead of tv and video games. I am divorced so I try to make sure that
when we are together we have quality time and do things that interest him
but also challenge him.

I have worked as an electrician, contractor (plumbing/framing. . . ),
managed an Incinerator Facility for the past 22 years and owned/operated a
Quarter Horse farm for almost 20. I can weld ok using an arc welder but I
do not have a lot of experience with a wire feed. I am good with mechanical
projects but by no means can I even think of designing some of the things
that I saw in Joes workshop (incredible work). I believe I can make the
chassis, upper hull and install most of the electronics on my own. I have
doubts about my ability when it comes to making the suspension; that has
been bothering me the last two days. I have watched videos and looked at
the tank build pictures on the website; I still do not have a clue on how
to get started with them.

I looked at the Armortek kits and can't justify 3 to 4k on something that
just drives around. I prefer something that we created ourselves and that
can serve a function (shooting paintballs at things). I want to build a
Jagdtiger; I know a huge undertaking for a first attempt. I really like the
vehicle and its history and hope I can make a passable model of it. Joe has
sent me some drawings and the stats of the vehicle. I have talked with
George Bradford and he sent me his drawing of it. He also provided me with
some reference material that he thought would be helpful.

I am hoping once a can create a mock up chassis out of plywood I will
become inspired and dive into the suspension issue. I am going to use the
TSS track (I believe that is the designation for the belt one). I found a
fellow that repairs exercise equipment and he is going to contact me as
soon as he has some old treadmill belts. He threw out three the morning
that I contacted him: as usual a day late.

My goal is to try to have a running lower hull that I can bring to your
first event this year; hopefully it will have some type of upper hull to
offer target practice.

See ya,

Pat

RE: [TANKS] Hello from NZ

2012-07-04 Thread Doug Conn
Post them anyway. We love seeing new tank builds. We love seeing completed
tanks even more !

Everybody on here has different levels of skill, experience, and equipment
availability. I sympathize completely when it comes to a less than beautiful
construction job. Pull your tank up next to Steve's Cromwell. Once you look
at the woodwork and joinery, everything else kind of pales.

work!

I have lurking on this site for 6 months, was going to post some pictures,
but going to have to photoshop them to keep up with the NZ dude!

Again excellent work!

Re: [TANKS] Hello from NZ

2012-07-02 Thread Grant Stonnell
Hi Chris
The suspension system is cut from 10mm Aluminium, the rack and pinion coe
out of the same piece, then there is two caps that cover the pinion part so
just the spring is exposed.
The hull of the tank is 4mm Mild steel with the skin beng mainly 1.6mm mild
steel with some 1mm as well.

Looks like 1/6th. That suspension system is great. Wish I had it on my

[TANKS] Hello

2010-11-04 Thread immortal1...@gmail.com
First off I thought I should introduce my self. My name is Mike and I
live in Wisconsin, US. A few weeks ago I happened to come across your
main web site and instantly knew I had to at least try to build one.
I gathered a few friends and we sat around in my basement and came up
with ideas and and materials and eventually came to the conclusion
that we would try to do it as cheaply as we could as we are all poor
at the moment.

We are trying to produce something very close to the Ha-Go #T052. We
would like to make tracks out of hinges, but are not aware of any
place that sells them cheap enough to fit our budget. I have spent
hours searching the net (specifically McMaster Carr) and local
hardware stores but haven't come up with much. I am looking for
hinges with a pin length of at least 2. Because we are on a budget
and because we will be using the tank as a recon vehicle for air soft
and not paintball, scale and aesthetics are not high on our list of
priorities. We just need to find parts for a reasonable price. Any
help given would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Mike.

By far the least expensive track type to build is TTS. Used treadmill
belts and scrap wood are usually quite inexpensive and readily available
in most neighborhoods.

[TANKS] Hello and looking to contact UK builders.

2009-02-18 Thread Jonathan Townshend
Hello all,

Came across the RC tank combat site the other day and well up for getting
involved.
I've got the scale plans for a Panzer 4 all ready to roll but before I get
going I'd like to get in contact with anyone from the UK and hopefully make
it to a battle/meetup or two first if there are any planned. Based in the
Midlands and pretty used to driving all over the country for various events.
Hope to hear from you all soon.

All the best
Jon
