Re: [TANKS] Looking for someone to test my new track design

2015-07-23 Thread Joshua Updyke
Mike,

First I want to thank you for your service. I am glad that you are
interested and I would like to know more about your design. Can you tell me
if 3" wide tracks will be sufficient for you? How long do you think the
track will need to be? I am trying to estimate how many treads you would
need for your tank. I am hoping to get some tracks on a tank ASAP so I can
see how they work and get some real life feedback. I have been playing
around with the design on the computer for long enough and now it is time
to get these things dirty and see what works or doesn't.

You mentioned that you plan on getting a laser cut interlocking hull. It
just so happens that I have access to a laser cutter and depending on
material I would have happy to cut the parts for you. I can cut up to 3/8"
wood or plastic. But not metal. If you did want metal I could use the
waterjet and cut them out of basically anything you can imagine. But I pay
for waterjet time so it would be much more expensive. The laser cutter is
free for me to use, so it would only cost materials and shipping.

Let me know if I can help.

I would absolutely love to take you up on that! I am still in the planning
stages of my tank. Funding is a bit shy too:-/ When things slow down I hope to
make more progress. I am active duty Navy (E-6), working on my bachelors degree
online (8 courses left), and just started a second job (should allow some
funding!). I want to laser cut an interlocking hull and power it with some ev
warrior motors kindly donated by John P. My tank will be an SU-122-54 for a
decent learning platform with simple suspension and simple (but attractive)
hull lines.

[TANKS] Looking for someone to test my new track design

2015-07-22 Thread Joshua Updyke

Hello all,

I posted a while back about my track design and I got a lot of really
helpful feedback. I have been working hard on the design and prototyping my
first set of tracks. There is a lot of information about my design here if
you want to read more about it.
https://hackaday.io/project/6106-modular-continuous-track-system

The reason I am posting is that I am looking for someone that is building a
vehicle and might be interested in testing out the tracks. They run on
standard #35 roller chain and are 3" wide. I am not sure but I think that
might be a little small compared to what most people here are using.
However, I also have another size that is 4" wide. So there are some
options. I also have done a lot of work with the horns for bogie wheels,
but at this moment I dont have and prototyped. They will be an easy to add
feature down the road.

So if you have a vehicle that you would be interested in testing out my
design and giving me some feedback let me know. Below is a couple pictures
of the most recent progress.
