Re: [TANKS] Re: KV-2 update

2010-02-21 Thread Derek Engelhaupt
It takes some trial and error to get the bends right. Sometimes pieces have
to be heated
and formed and then re-heated and re-formed. Some of them aren't perfect,
but they look
decent enough. Some of the bends were then finished using a belt sander to
smooth out
the bends and remove any heating marks. I used a hand propane torch to heat
the plastic.
I wish I had an old oven that I could heat the pieces with. That would make
it easier. All
of the rounded edges were done on my router. PVC routes really nice. Much
better finish
on the routed pieces than wood. It does glue easily unless you are in a
really cold garage
like me. The glue can take a long time to dry when it's cold.

Derek:

  Nice work!!
That PVC plastic is cool stuff, strong, glues easly, cuts nice, impact
resistant, and I see it bends well. It looks like a good choice for
building a tank.
Your plastic tank is looking good!

How hard was it to get good bends for your turret? How did you heat it
for the bends?

Derek, very very nice :) I love how the thick plastic looks after
you've got it formed... very much looks the business.

[TANKS] Re: KV-2 update

2010-02-20 Thread Phil
Nice job. I particularly like the sagging tracks- very authentic. I
hope they work.

You certainly have masses of space in the turret for paintballs and
stuff. I like the KV2, tanks should be ugly in my view and she
certianly qualifies!
