Yeah, but where is the fun in just downloading one when you could make it yourself? Plus, it has to be the exact tank model and once again, part of the point is to learn the insides of the tank. i just went looking in my files as i thought i has some scans from my tiger book showing the profiles of the tank but don't see any (might have been on my old pc that crapped out this past year). i'll try to scane in some of the pages with the drawings on them, i think there is drawings of a early and late war version of the Tiger. does it make any difference to you as to what i might find in my book? Speaking of THR D (sorry, that's from a movie not many of you have seen), I was wondering if any of you knew of a free sort of program for making mechanical stuff. I have Google Sketchup but as you well know it's for more architectural stuff. It could be used for the tank's body and the mechanical parts could be designed by hand... Anyway, other than buying the $5,000 AutoCAD starter kit, is there any easy way to use a 3d program? You can download Google sketchup (its free) and search for tiger I in the google model inventory on the internet. There is a couple of them there and they are really good. Some aren't 100% to scale with the real thing but its close enough for what we do. Another option would be to download a paper model from this site if they have one. They have several other tanks also which would be fun to build. http://rapidlibrary.com/index.php?q=modelik&page=3&filetype= On Dec 30, 1:57 pm, Explosive Racing wrote: > Yeah, I know it will be cheap to buy a model, but I don't feel like > spending money one that, when I could save it for the real thing, even > if it is only a few $ > I think I've got a good model going right now, it sort-of looks like > the real thing, just got to touch up a few things. > Plus, I don't think too many people will notice if something is not > completely to scale. Yeah, I know it will be cheap to buy a model, but I don't feel like spending money one that, when I could save it for the real thing, even if it is only a few $ I think I've got a good model going right now, it sort-of looks like the real thing, just got to touch up a few things. Plus, I don't think too many people will notice if something is not completely to scale. I don't really plan on battling with this tank, just using it for fun, along with my other RCs (nitro & electric cars/ trucks) -Explosive Racing On Dec 30, 4:40 pm, Thomas Lum wrote: > I know everyone has a different budget, but the model to scale your > "real" tank on will probably be one of the cheapest things you will > purchase! Thanks guys for the input. Sadly, I don't think I have the spare money to buy some models or diagrams. But I was looking around and found this site: (http:// www.alanhamby.com/technical.shtml) Which has some measurements. I think I might be able to make the general shape with those measurements, and then go with all the other stuff by looking at pictures. It might work, right? I'll try to finish up my rough drawings and see how they turn out. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions shortly. Even better, if you can manipulate 3DS files, try these: http://www.deespona.com/3denciclopedia/categoria_vehicles.html category military vehicles. http://www.deespona.com/3denciclopedia/models/ft17-ber.html You can view them in the links above. They'll make things more complicated for you, however they are quite spectacular. Some are 3D scans of 1:35 models. Some detail lacking or simplfications are identifiable from specific models I had built. [TANKS] Re: Tank Building Help
Hello and welcome. For measurement reference you've got some good options. First, you can buy a 1/35 or 1/48 plastic model, measure the various parts, and scale them up. Second, you can buy very inexpensive 2d scale drawings from George Bradford http://www.geocities.com/firefly1002000/1-48dwgs.html If you into 3d data models, you can buy pre-made tank data. Here's a $15 low poly count Tiger 1 model, for example: http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/german-tiger-tank-3d-model/315745 - Doug -Original Message- From: rctankcombat@googlegroups.com [mailto:rctankcom...@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Explosive Racing Sent: Tuesday, December 30, 2008 9:44 AM To: R/C Tank Combat Subject: [TANKS] Tank Building Help Hello Everyone. I've been interested in building a tank this this past summer, and I think I am going to start building as soon as I can. But, I need some help. I've been reading alot on the rctankcombat.com website, and I think I am going to build a Tiger Tank I. Now, I don't have any sort of plans for this tank or anything, but I am currently building a 3-D model on the computer. But, I don't know any of the rough dimensions for this tank. The only dimension I have read somewhere was that the hull was 3 feet long. So, if we could go from there, what would the other dimensions be? >From those dimensions, I'm going to build some simple "Bicycle Chain Track" for the tracks. All other things will come after I get dimensions so I can draw it up, and see what I can come up with. Any help with dimensions and measurements would be appreciated, Thanks, Explosive Racing --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You are currently subscribed to the "R/C Tank Combat" group.
