my nearest paintball place has no nets. No spectators allowed. Break
area is encolsed by a full wood and breezeblock wall

[TANKS] Re: War in the Woods reconnaissance

2009-05-22 Thread Phil

This looks like the way to go. I doubt we will be operating in very
high winds. I just wonder whether it will stop (or rather slow down
sufficiently) paintballs? It is very light- 80 gm/sq m is exactly the
same weight as photocopying paper. Our local p-ball place uses netting
whichis thicker I'm sure but that's for permanent erection. It'd be
worth e-mailing them.

Has anyone in the group tried using netting?

I have a collection of aluminium poles left over from various trailer-
tent awnings (now departed to trailer-tent heaven) which are probably
suitable for poles.

DATES: How about 5/6 September here in Surrey guys? I'm warming up the
barbeque!

[TANKS] Re: War in the Woods reconnaissance

2009-05-20 Thread funkyneroc

I have been having ideas regarding netting , A quick internet search uncovered
this :-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PAINTBALL-NETTING-GARDEN-NET-BIRD-SCREEN-BLACK-2MX-50M_W0QQitemZ400032307904QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_H_G_Ladders_RL?hash=item5d23c89ac0&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A30

50M X 2M netting inc delivery about 30pounds and a pack of lats for 15 pounds
. Or 15 quid each for the 3 of us ( Phil, Pete and Myself ), I call that
quite cheap.
I could make `quick set up` 2 Meter `barrier sections` , so with a few
temporary posts in the ground we can create safe areas even without an existing
fence to tie the netting to. This will be very useful in back garden battles or
anywhere we don’t want paintballs to go , from school fields to car parks.
Unless in high winds.
The other thing with this netting is selected visiters will be able to
spectate, from the `other side`
I have worked out I will be able to make 4 No 40 foot sections for 45 quid.
This barrier can easily be constructed / transported and should last for ever
or there abouts.
Tell me what you guys think

Phil I can do any w/end in Sept except 19th - 20th if you cant do the back end
of July.

[TANKS] Re: War in the Woods reconnaissance

2009-05-19 Thread Phil

Right,I've been up to see Ray (who owns the access)who says Yes we can
use it, so we are on for War in the Woods!

In terms of dates, the only weekend I have free till September is the
Bank Holiday w/end 22/23 August. Thereafter all of Sept is free. How
does that suit people?

To deal with Neil's questions, the gravel area is at the back of the
garage and locked up after noon Saturday and therefore not convenient.
Access off the stables drive is much better. I may be able to borrow
Ray's carpark to the side.

My garden would need protecting with sacking or tarpaulins or
something, but not impossible.

[TANKS] Re: War in the Woods reconnaissance

2009-04-29 Thread Chris Malton

A well thought out set of questions Neil. I would say I was about to
ask them myself, but never actually managed to get that far.

I would be interested in hearing more, but everything is somewhat
dependent on timing and travel arrangements. The latter in 8 weeks, the
former now. The problem being Mum will almost certainly NOT let me drive
all the way to Surrey just yet, let alone Manchester. Even if we take
the assets I own out of the equation (something I'd rather not do),
getting me to Surrey by train on a Saturday seems easy enough (2hr 20
ish and 2 changes), but getting back again on a Sunday is stupid
(typically 3 - 4 hr and 7 changes), thanks to engineering works through
London. As long as one or both of these problems can be avoided after
my exams, then perhaps we could get somewhere. Actually hang on a
minute - I've had an idea.

[TANKS] Re: War in the Woods reconnaissance

2009-04-29 Thread funkyneroc

Phil , you know my eagerness to battle , I will battle anywhere, any time, with
anyone!
I have a few questions .
Concerning the gravel area ,who owns the land and white building at the other
side of the gap in the fence ? or more to the point does anyone go wandering
about who could get an eye full of paint ?
How does the gravel area connect to the woodland section ? Can a tank drive
from one to the other ?
Is it possible to drive cars to the gravel area ?
I’m having trouble mental mapping from the video footage to what I can see on
Goggle Earth .I cant see any gravel area around the location you have sent me.
I’m glad T055 could navigate round the woodland without much trouble, I think
`chip` is best suited to woodland than any other UK asset.
I will very happily attend a two day event to battle on the land you have found
and your own premises, as long as your neighbours aren’t the sort to panic and
call the rozzers.
I stand by Pete’s offer to help out clearing the site , unless this is all just
a clever ploy that you and your friend Charlie thought up to get his land
tidied .
Charlie’s land isn’t very big ,as you say, but none the less consider me in ,
can we start talking dates ? We are talking Saturday-Sunday I presume. I’m
thinking May ( or just soon )and we need to get Pete’s valentine moving.
The Marder is almost operational and fit to be making a trip down south.

Gravel played hell with my old track design. The gravel got sucked up into
the sprockets and caused the tracks to come off; although, that would make
for an interesting battle since all the participants would be battling the
terrain as much as battling each other.
