I know the sort of hing you want, but I can't remember the name. Plus I
think they aren't particularly common these days, being superseded by the
new style cabinet hinges.

Suppose that you attach the turret bin to the base of the turret, and
have the hinge at point b like this:
  b
   a \
\ __o__
 | Bin==
 |_ |
  | Turret |
  |___

You could put the hinge point at "a", but it would show, whereas at b
it looks like it's the bin hinge.

work space is always a problem. what i meant was if i ever make it to one

the problem is, the lowest hinge point. part of the hinge body attaches to
the floor of the turret and the back storage container (or what ever it
might be called). the floor buts up against the back of the box, so if i put
a hinge in there, the back of th ebox will want to pivot down and under the
floor of the turret, binding it so it won't really open, and if i were to
trim the floor on a 50' angle, i'd end up hitting the top deck f the tank
body. that's why i thought maybe a mini hinge like you would find under the
hood of a car. the link Steve gave me did have one almost like that, but it
required 5" of space pretty much eating up that golden space within the
turret.

we just got back from mo's Dr's appointment and hope to get out into the
garage to look the turret over, see if maybe there is another way to work it.

the end result i was looking for, was to hinge the turret back at 90' so
there would be full access to the internal workings and also so it could be
left open for display at any future show (more so at that robot show or what
ever it is some of the guys go to yearly - if i could ever make that trip).

i am also going to look at making it hinge just behind the mantle, near the
top and see if i can get it to flip forward with the same kind of
exposure.

stupid, stupid me i'm looking at making the hinge point at the
bottom of that compartment on the rear of the turret - the problem i kept
having was when the turret would flip back, there would e a small portion that
would hit the deck of the tank an prevent it from opening up fully.

but it just dawned on me (might have been due to a yawn and the extra
oxygen to the brain for a brief moment) what if i where cut the compartment
maybe an inch from the base and make it hinge there Doh!

i'll look that idea over tomorrow after we get back from mom's doctor
