[TANKS] cheapest easiest way to build one of these machines

2017-09-21 Thread Weston
Hello

I've been a lurker mostly, and I haven't built anything, but I've wanted
to. I've posted some time ago, but I just have never had the funds to make
one of these. I think now that if I can build one cheap enough, I can
eventually piece one together.

I'm looking at the SU-76I to build, as it is a simple tank destroyer, it
shouldn't be too hard. I also plan to have the gun only go up and down, to
cut cost and complexity. I would like at least a high and low type of
drive, for finer adjustments being I am taking that away from the gun. if
not I may just have to fork out the money for a ESC, I'm more likely to
want to have variable speed drive over gun traverse.

I'm not sure how I want to go about anything. I will have to buy
everything, so I'm going to want to go as cheap as possible. I don't have
much in the way of tools either, so no fancy machining. I can go over to
relatives to work on things if I have to, but I would like to try to make
as much as possible myself. I even would have to go over to a relatives
house to make the hull.

I was thinking that the hinge track system might be the best for me to
build, doesn't seem like anything other than buying the hinges and bolts
would be needed. I'm just not sure how that would look on the Panzer 3 hull
of the SU-76I. I would also most likely need to buy the road and drive
wheels, and the little return rollers (whatever the ones on top are
called). but if there is a better system out there, I will look at it.

for the hull I was thinking of making it out of wood, painting the wood,
and then covering it with some Plexiglas or Lexan for extra strength and
protection of the paint job. not sure If I want to add the command cupola
to it or not, would make it a bit more difficult to build, but would give a
bit more room, and could use the cupola to feed the hopper, or something
like that.

other than that I don't know where to start. any suggestions?

Re: [TANKS] cheapest easiest way to build one of these machines

Hello Weston!

There no cheapest easiest rc tank I would say... Having tracks make
everything hard and complex. Building the hull is the easy part whatever
you do but the tracks, suspension, and motors arrangement is the hard
part..!

the PzIII probably not the easiest with the number of parts envolve in the
suspension but that your choice asnd that all rigth..!!

You will want a true ESC like the sabberthooth 3X32 from dimension
engenering (that's what I like to use since it's the cheapest and reliable
at least for me...) if you want true control of your tank and it's easier
to get the electronics working with a receiver and everything..!

Building the hull from wood only is very easy and no need of extra
renforcement at all, that what I did with my RSO tractor and T-70 tank

Details like the comander coupola are just extras, your biggest goal is to
get the hull running on it's tracks... the rest is ''figurable''

For the Tracks, i'm not sure thats hinges and bolts are the cheapest ways
or the easiest way, I'm using TTS (Tyng-Track-System!) And it did the job
well so far!

I would recomand a fix suspension to start (easy and cheaper) Your first
goal would be to get the running gear working the rest of the hull and gun
and details arethe easy parts.!!

If you got other technical questions I can try to help you out as much as
can.!!

Good luck!
