   So after baking in the oven for an hour, did you oil quench them 
or let them cool gradually?

I let them cool down in air. I never tried quenching them, but I'm afraid
they might get brittle.

And here it is.  Ol' Rocketman was dead on and Neil was close. Making
suspension springs. And you might ask the question,  Who in the MAG world
would be making a suspension? They always have lived by the solid axle.
