if the printed nut were to fit and work properly i'd consider casting some. as 
to their life, i'd think that with proper greasing it should last for a long 
time as it's not like there's a lot of weight bearing down on it

i don't think the printer at the local shop won't have an issue with threads - 
though i could always mold and one of the nuts that come with it

Acme is a standard profile. You'd have trouble with the resolution for the 
threads, but it'd be easier with an acme than a v thread.  Acme are better for 
strength, so it probably would wear well.

Most of the acme threads I cut were a lot bigger than that. Acme thread inserts 
aren't that common for hobbyists though.
