Re: [RE-wrenches] Solmetric PVA-600 PV Analyser
Hey Benn, I've been communicating with Paul Hernday the at Solmetric concerning the PVA-600 and also an issue I'm dealing with concerning a 6 year old array's output. My impression was that he was the lead person in making this tool happen. They are fine-tuning some of the software for this unit and he feels pretty confident that it will be available for purchase by mid October. [RE-wrenches] Fw: Pulse charge controller
Hi Marco: Bryan White, who is on this board, now works for a different solar company in Grass Valley. He was my primary contact at Pulse and then Connect. I think he works for Eagle Roofing now. Re: [RE-wrenches] Interconnection downstream of ATS
Title: Interconnection downstream of ATS Just musing here, Mark, What if the coil of the contactor was energized by the grid. The benefit is that grid goes down and so does theinverter; grid goes up and the inverter waits 5 min, long enough for the ATS to transfer back to grid. I can see two downsides: 1) the continuous tiny load of the contactor coil, and 2) you would have to run signal cable from the grid point on the ATS (or ahead of it) to the contactor at the inverter.'s point of connection to AC. Because the ATS takes a minute or so to bring the generator up and transfer, the inverter would drop out when the line is lost. If I had a contactor on inverter output, with the coil held by line voltage and a reset switch, I could set it up so that the inverter output would be isolated from the generator upon line voltage loss, and manually reset once utility line voltage was restored. I am wondering about the following 4 considerations: 1 - Code / AHJ acceptablity: Does the Code address the issue of load side connection downstream of an ATS? 2 - Utility (PG&E) acceptability: I don't see how the utility would care. 3 - Inverter manufacturer acceptability: The manufacturer might not warrant this application unless they were confortable that the inverter never sees generator voltage. 4 - Functional efficacy: Owner would have to reset inverters manually. Re: [RE-wrenches] PV and Roof Flammability
One thing to consider is that PV is installed on a lot of buildings here, and many more in Europe. There is ample data available to determine if PV is a fire hazard. We should not create codes based on speculation. Early on the "what if" factor seemed to play heavily into the equation. At this point safety evaluations can be based on field experience. At 10:12 PM 9/22/2010, you wrote: Wrenches, See http://www.solarabcs.org/flammability/ and the report at http://www.solarabcs.org/flammability/Flammability_Interimreport.pdf Is there any flammability difference between PV equipment on a roof and HVAC or air handling equipment on a roof? My concern is whether PV is being singled out as a flammability concern while other more established industries with more powerful lobbyists are not.
