[RE-wrenches] Squirrel/leaf guard for solar array

2013-02-15 Thread Carl Adams
Hello Wrenches,

I serviced an array yesterday which had accumulated a large amount of
leaves under the modules. No evidence of squirrels at this point, but I
know there has been discussion of protective fencing around arrays to
prevent squirrels moving in and I wonder if the same system might keep the
leaf debri from building up under the array. Do any of you have
suggestions for materials and methods to do this. A link to photos of
installed projects would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Carl,

Check out the sidebar by Stephen Kane in this article for info on a couple
squirrel guard product suppliers:

http://solarprofessional.com/article/?file=SP6_2_pg30_Jacoby

I do think that the same system can serve both purposes. Once the screen is in
place it should be self-evident when the debris builds up and needs to be
cleaned. When it's under the array, it's out of sight, out of mind and
potentially a problem.

SnapNRack makes a wire mesh roof guard, probably works on any installation.

2013-02-15 Thread Will White
We've used the Snap N Rack squirrel guard with good success on a bunch of
installs. They've changed it recently to a thicker mesh and you don't have to
use pop rivets so you can remove it if necessary without having to drill out
the rivets.

[RE-wrenches] Bergey XL1 and the Classic controller

2013-02-15 Thread Chris Daum
Dear People:

We've had pretty good luck with our XL1 sales, with some out there since
around 2001 with few problems. The turbines have been less problematic than
the controllers (we've had to replace a couple of those). Now Bergey is
offering the XL1 with the Classic controller; does anyone have any 'in the
field' that can comment on their performance with the Classic? I like the
idea of field selectability of battery voltage but am wondering if there are
any glitches

[RE-wrenches] Corrugated roofing mounts

2013-02-15 Thread William Miller

Friends:

I am trying to specify attachments for a corrugated roof. This is the type
with the sine wave shape.

I want to try the DPW CMB product line. I have been instructed to provide
measurements of the corrugation from peak to peak and also the height from
valley to peak. The problem is that the measurements vary from point to
point on this roof. In some places the peak to peak is 2.75 and in others
it is in the 2.6 range. The height varies from 0.625 to 0.5 inches.

I have looked on-line and I find that a common dimension for roofing peak
to peak is 2.67. There are products with height measurements of 0.5 and
0.875.

I have a few questions:

1. How do I figure out which roofing product I have?
2. Does it matter if the spacing varies from one location to the next?
3. Does anyone have experience with the CMB product.

Thanks in advance.

The SnapNrack Corrugated Roof Block will work with that roof - I'm sure DPW has
one that will work as well but can't say which size -
