Re: [RE-wrenches] Genasun

2015-06-24 Thread John Blittersdorf
Ray,
Timing is everything. I wish they had been around 5 years ago. My golf
cart that has been plug in free for 5 years could have used that. Guess I
continue with the 3 Sunwize 80 watt panels. I was having trouble finding a
good outdoor charge controller until Midnite came out with the BRAT. Just
hooking that up now to prevent overcharging.

Looks like a good fit for either a SunPower or Kyocera. Although with
SunPower you might be paying as much for the single module as you did for
the cart...

HI All;

Anyone heard of or tried these controllers:
https://genasun.com/products-store/mppt-solar-charge-controllers/golf-cart-s
olar-charge-boost-controllers/

They seem like a great idea: use a single 60 cell module to charge a 36v or
48v golfcart battery pack. The good old 60 cell (39" x 65") is a good fit
for a golf cart roof, without becoming a head banger.
Unfortunately the Genasun seems to be obsolete before even getting any
where; it is limited to 8 amps of input current which is less than 250 watts
for a typical 60 cell module. (I can't even find any modules that low a
power now) We called the manu, and their support said we could only push
the controller to maybe 8.2 amps.I've tried other layouts with 12 v
modules, and it either doesn't fit or negates any benefits from this
controller.

As always, thanks in advance for your input.

Hi Jason,

We've used Unirac for years but have been contemplating Ironridge. I'm
curious what your experience was and why you went back to Unirac?

Anyone else have input on best racking systems for flush-mounted

Re: [RE-wrenches] SnapNrack

2015-06-24 Thread Dana
After many years of UniRac we switched to SnapnRack. We have never had to wait
for product. AEE ships within 48 hours (usually) there are lots of options for
different roofs and they all seem to work well. Flush mount rail is the same
for ground mount. We have “custom” over engineered racks at 10,000 ft.el., many
times that were like doing erector sets on a roof and are so stout that it is
wonderful. Service has been excellent with question & suggestions. I am sold
can you tell?

Flush mount is a an easy install too check out their online design & components

I'm curious if these vertical integrators will still make their acquired brands
available to small dealers through distribution. When SolarCity snatched up
Zep, I had concerns about being able to service or add onto existing Zep
systems we installed. That's definitely a concern going forward, and reason to
perhaps stick with the most compatible racking solutions available. We used

The only complaint with the Snapnrack rails is the thin wall can easily be
distorted. This will allow the nut to drop out of its groove. Love the
universal end clamps but have learned to assemble every one to check for proper
