Re: [RE-wrenches] SD card data processing

2017-08-07 Thread Mac Lewis
My original stab at this works; its a script based in an open-source
language called R. It easily handles the large data files. It will merge
the files, based on device type, pull out error codes etc. The problem is
that it is cmd line based and is a pain to customize when you are rusty
with code. I'm looking for something with an easy GUI, and lots of feature
rich graphs that I can show clients without spending hours doing it.

Thanks

I would run MySQL on my computer and write a python script to import the
data to MySQL, and use a front end package to graph the data - it's pretty
easy to do.
If that's more than you can handle, go to Guru.com and setup an account,
describe what yo uwant done, and there's plenty of willing takers that will
write the code to do it nicely.

Re: [RE-wrenches] SimpliPhi Power PHI3.4 Smart -Tech Batteries and LifeBlue

2017-08-07 Thread Dave Angelini Offgrid Solar
Chris,

I am impressed with a first look at Lifeblue. They seem much easier to
integrate that Simpliphi with their larger capacity and Soc data out
wireless!!! To me this is a huge feature for my clients and myself.

On first look I will say I have been testing the LG RESU10 since last
year. To me they are the benchmark for a couple reasons. LG Chem is a 20
billion dollar company with (unlike Tesla) over 20 years of profitability.
So I feel they will be there.

The second is how the BMS calculates and continuously calibrates the Soc.
This is very different to me than any battery monitor I have used. This
becomes apparent when one goes for a week or more without getting to 100%
Soc. The LG is extremely accurate. The protection on the LG is as good as
I can think of with contactor, overcurrent protection from both a
breaker/Disco and a class T fuse. I have tested them in a DC input short
(failed DC Inverter input). It works!

So, at this time I would say the Lifeblue needs to prove itself and I
would be happy to keep an eye on all the early adapters :)

Schneider did release the Bridge for LG Chem BTW, and Outback has delayed
the Skybox until 2018 which is being tested with LG Chem also.

On a different note, how does the LG or PW deal with dark start? If it shuts

[RE-wrenches] SD card data processing

2017-08-07 Thread Mac Lewis
Hi Wrenches,

I am getting more and more zipped up SD card data emailed from clients from
their Outback Mate 3s, Sunny Islands and other systems that we have out
there. The data can be very laborious to process and will crash Excel most
of the time because of the sheer quantity of data. Also oftentimes, you
need to merge these data sets to get a true picture of how these power
systems are functioning.

Do you have recommendations for 3rd party programs to help process and
analyse this data? I am looking closely at WattPlot SunMate to use with
the Outback stuff. Maybe there is a better way? I'm interested in any
feedback about WattPlot products in general as well.

Thanks in advance

Re: [RE-wrenches] Battery load tester purchase advice?

2017-08-07 Thread Ray
I also recently purchased a Variac. They are really nice for dialing in
voltage, especially when testing old AC equipment. Line voltage here is
almost 125 vac these days, while old tube equipment was designed for 110
vac. Its also a great way to slow down power tools for better
control. So a Variac has lots of uses besides load control. You just
have to be careful because it can output up to 145 vac. I plug a Kill A
Watt meter into the output to double check the voltage, as the markings
on the control and the on board meter are not accurate.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Battery load tester purchase advice?

2017-08-07 Thread Dan Fink
Thanks to everyone for their input, it really clarified how to get the data
Trojan is looking for. I am going to go with what we have in stock as a
"Trojan Approved" load tester is out of my price range, and the reasonably
priced auto parts store ones hit you 100+ amps plus as they are trying to
test CCA, not SOC. I have a voltage logging USB unit along with a current
logger and CT. We'll use a small inverter and switchable AC light bulbs for
load so that it stays constant at the 25A Trojan wants to see, and in the
future we'll be able to adjust it for amperage by switching in and out more
light bulbs.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Battery load tester purchase advice?

2017-08-07 Thread Hugh
I have used a load resistor on a voltage controlled relay VCS from solar
converters and a USB data logger. I only used the relay because I didn't want
to kill the battery or sit watching. USB voltage loggers are good things to own
anyway.
