Re: [RE-wrenches] Solectria TL woes

2020-02-25 Thread Andrew Truitt
I'm with you guys and we actually had a bad transformer bushing at this
site initially which was causing exactly that issue. The site still runs
high (498-508Vac nominal) but is well below the 528V default upper limit of
the TLs, and the shut-offs are not correlated with higher AC voltages.
Also the 50TLs, which have the same voltage input window and are connected
at the same panel, never have an issue. The fact that Solectria is willing
to RMA the units without much more information than what I've given here
tells me that it may be a systemic issue with this run of inverters, right?

Jerry, the inverters are loaded at a 1.18 ratio so minor clipping happens
somewhat regularly. DC voltage never exceeds the 850V upper MPPT limit.

Andrew Truitt

2020-02-25 Thread Dave Angelini Offgrid Solar

Concur with Sandra completely.

All of my clients are having no
problems with Insight2 as far as what Howie wrote. It has been very
reliable for about a year now.

The remote programming with Insight2 has
had a few issues but it is on the sched to be fixed. Many are working fine
but a few are not and that is what Trevor addressed in a troubleshooting
tool. The Gateway can be remote programmed also and has had very few
problems since beta testing. Even then it was solid.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Solectria TL woes

2020-02-25 Thread Jason Szumlanski
It sure looks like it could be an AC voltage issue. Around here the utility
voltage is often high in the morning and then gets dragged down when loads
in the neighborhood spike from air conditioning (yes, even in winter here
in Florida). We see drop-outs (with other brand inverters) in the
mid-morning as a result. Usually the utilities here will resolve it if you
demonstrate the voltage is high, even if it's not out of their acceptable
range.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Solectria TL woes

2020-02-25 Thread Jeff Irish, PE
Andrew, I've seen this in multiple inverter systems when the AC voltage
gets pushed outside the upper limit by the inverter output currents. One
or two inverters will cycle on-off, those with the lowest setting or
tolerance. Cause can be (1) high AC voltage from the utility to start
with, and/or (2) high impedance looking into the grid from the inverters,
usually from an undersized or loose service conductor.

[RE-wrenches] Solectria TL woes

2020-02-25 Thread Andrew Truitt
Wrenches,

I have a couple of Solectria 36TLs at a small community solar site in CO
that shut themselves down occasionally for what appears to be no reason.

Voltages and frequency are normal, firmware is updated, IR scan shows
nothing irregular, and the other 2 inverters at the site (50TLs) are fine.
It can happen under sunny or cloudy conditions. Solectria will RMA the
inverters but before I go out and replace I'm curious if anyone has seen
this behavior?

Do these problems encompass having sites that previously were configured
and operating on Insight2, but for at least the last month or 2 have shown
up on the home page, but either show no connectivity or no devices? This
has been my experience and it is a major issue since I sold my clients on
the remote monitoring and configuration capability of the XW. I have spoken
with tech support several times with no resolution...

[RE-wrenches] AIMS inverter

2020-02-25 Thread Kent Osterberg
Last week I was called to examine a solar power system installed by an
Idaho electrical contractor. According to the owner of this system, this
contractor has built several similar systems in the area.

The owner's complaint was that the AGM batteries kept failing. The work
was done without permits. A non-UL listed AIMS inverter was installed.
The inverter was setup to operate as a whole house backup system in
battery priority mode. That was the only way for the solar system to do
any work considering that the inverter can't be used for net metering.
Trouble is the battery priority mode on the AIMS inverter discharges the
batteries down to 42 volts before switching back to utility power to
recharge. With an undersized solar system the batteries were being
deeply cycled nearly every day, so of course the batteries weren't
lasting worth a darn.

Please don't set these inverters up in battery priority mode; it'll do
nothing except ruin batteries.

[RE-wrenches] Web portal Insight2 not making remote changes for some.

2020-02-25 Thread Dave Angelini Offgrid Solar

Hi Wrenches,

Some who have been experiencing the inability to remotely
control with Insight2 should know that a fix is on it's way. I got this
yesterday. There was also a Gateway and mobile App update on the Schneider
site. You may want to try it again soon and let me know please. Thx!

Hi Dave,

We are working on a new firmware which will help to
troubleshoot this issue. We have already identified a cloud side issue
which is being implemented as we speak and it should address a bunch of
failures.

If you want, you can post a note on Wrenches and tell them
that your "inside contact" has confirmed a fix is being worked on 😊

We
should have something ready in a week or 2.

Trevor.
