2022-04-06 Thread Nick Soleil via RE-wrenches
Jason beat me by a second. The RMA inverters will ship with an adapter cable
that allows the IQ microinverters to plug into the old cabling system and talk
to the legacy L-N Envoy. Let me know if you didn't receive the adapter cable.

Hello Wrenches,

We received IQ7 inverters from Enphase as RMA replacements for failed legacy
(M175 and M190) inverters. I understand the IQ7 PLC is line to line, and the
legacy INV PLC is line to neutral. Have any of you successfully gotten a
circuit with a mixture of IQ7 and legacy INV to communicate?

This is a large project and shuffling old INV in order to make separate
circuits with only IQ7 and only legacy INV will be difficult and expensive. It
appears that Enphase is telling us we need to do that (is that correct Nick
S.?) but I am trying to see if any of you have successfully mixed on the same
circuit, and anything you may have had to do to make the communication work.
There are some older threads about installing ferrite loops to reduce noise,
but I haven't found anything specifically about mixed circuits.

Thanks,
-Nathan

Are you sure the boxes don't have conversion kits inside. They send us IQ7s
with dongles to adapt to previous generations. The comms are not an issue,
however sometimes you need to request firmware updates to make things work
I've found.

Hi Jason,

Storz Power has a new wall mounted NEMA 3R enclosure that can fit 2 of
their 5.12 kWh battery modules and can be stacked up to 80 kWh. Might be
worth looking into.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Outdoor LiPO batteries

2022-04-06 Thread Jason Szumlanski via RE-wrenches
The Fortress option looks pretty good, but it's not truly wall mount.

I'm holding out hope for something that looks like a Powerwall or Enphase
Encharge battery. I would probably just go ahead and use Powerwalls if they
were actually available, and I really wish you could use Enphase for
off-grid. There are scenarios where a battery with integrated inverter is
just easier to install and looks way better. I realize that an AC Coupled
architecture is not the most efficient (cost or performance), but for some
reason the DC-coupled world has not come around to attractive wall-mounted
products that consumers like. Maybe Generac (not my first choice). Do they
do totally off-grid?

[RE-wrenches] Outdoor LiPO batteries

2022-04-06 Thread Jason Szumlanski via RE-wrenches
I'm trying to find out what wall-mounted outdoor rated battery systems
exist for completely off-grid systems - not grid-tied. This would be for a
showcase job, so the packaging needs to be attractive and durable. I'm
thinking about pairing it with a Sol-Ark 12K outdoor unit. It would need to
be scalable up to 80kWh.
