[RE-wrenches] LiPO with Trace SW5548

2022-07-13 Thread Jason Szumlanski via RE-wrenches
Any suggestions for LiPO batteries that play nice with the SW5548? This
system also has an Outback CC for a pretty small PV array (rating TBD).

Based on some pics I received from the client, the current lead acid
battery appears to be around 40kWh and was slightly undersized, so I'd be
looking for LiPO around 30kWh.

I’d look at the Simpliphi brand
We’ve had good luck, however they were smaller in size at 3.8KW
Perhaps they make a larger battery for your needs.

Are the IQ-7 inverters going to remain available? The additional cost of
the IQ-8 micros killed one project where I couldn't find a good source

That is correct, Jay. You only need the rapid shutdown switch if you

One of the big advantages of the IQ 8 over IQ 7 when paired with
storage is that the 1.5 PV to storage ratio does not apply, so you can
install larger PV systems with smaller battery systems.

Hi Jason

And if you don't have the smart controller/battery system then you do
not need this proprietary rapid shut down switch correct?

Yes, they require a proprietary rapid shutdown switch that connects to
the smart controller. This would be in addition to a visible load break

requirements with one switch, and it requires a line voltage circuit be
run from the smart controller to the rapid shutdown switch.

I am trying to figure out why it is a good idea we use the IQ8 in
anything other than a solar only backup scenario. If there are Enphase
batteries involved, wouldn't the IQ7 do the same job on the roof? In a
straight grid tied scenario, again the IQ7 would do the exact same
thing. You would not have an upgrade path to solar only backup, of
course.

I'm just having a hard time understanding the value proposition of the
IQ8 in most of the situations I encounter. They cost significantly
more, and you need an additional rapid shutdown switch when using
batteries that can be quite a pain in some scenarios.

Am I missing something about the switching speed, energy harvest
capability, or the way they interact with batteries that makes them
better?

P.S. I am aware of the very small power output differences by model
number and I am referring exclusively to 240 volt applications. I
understand the 208 volt advantages of the IQ8.

[RE-wrenches] Looking to upgrade my presentation

2022-07-13 Thread Dana Orzel via RE-wrenches
Hey all you solar computer wizards out there!

My forte is not & never has been sales presentation & my current sales are
reflecting my beyond simple presentation.

My proposal presentation is a basic email. E-mail Simple, to the point, time
consuming, not glossy, & again very time consuming.

I have tried to use Open Solar but the last time Google shot our area was
2016 so most of what I am quoting is not on Google. My House that was
started in 2016 still shows as sage & aspen on Google Earth.

I am looking for a "fill in the particulars" type of form, plug in module
size & # of modules, cost per watt with local utility , $ saved based on
estimated production, with some degree of auto calculation for electrical
production, cost, reflecting fed &state tax credits, trees saves, Co2
offset, etc...

Any and all suggestion are welcome. Interested in selling the format you
have generated for a reasonable fee?

Thanks in advance all.

It's not the most elegant solution, but if you have another source of
imagery you can import it into Open Solar. Once you have the imagery in

Re: [RE-wrenches] LiPO with Trace SW5548

2022-07-13 Thread Mac Lewis via RE-wrenches
I would consider a 15 cell (3.2 volts per cell) Lithium Iron Phosphate
battery such as FNS (UL Listed 15 cell). This puts the LBCO at about
47.6-48.0V or so. A 15 series cell battery puts the voltage in line with
the LBCO of the Trace inverter without an auxiliary contactor triggered by
the charge controller or another device. EIther way works, but then you
don't have to worry about tripping out the low battery at the BMS
instead of the inverter. I will say that the Fortress is a nice quick
install if you don't have to lift it but the 48V LBCO limit will need to be
dealt with in a 16 cell battery.

Let us know what you decide.

Cheers
