Re: [RE-wrenches] Wind machines

2023-08-17 Thread Ray Walters via RE-wrenches
I've watched VAWT pop up like its a new idea every few years for almost
the past 50 years.  VAWT is just basically a bad idea, as it's trying to
make usable power too close to the ground.  I've never seen any that
lasted very long, or matched their power claims.

It can however be Kinetic art, which is what many folks find attractive,
I think.

That Superwind is a good turbine, has a good track record but it's a bit
spendy for the size.
They have targeted the commercial field and are doing well with the
railroad and oil and gas industry.

I tend to forget about it so I hadn't mentioned it before.

As for VAWTs, there are still no commercially viable models on the
market today. They have a terrible track record.
They look cool, tend to be installed on college campuses and other
highly visible locations, so the general public

thinks that they must be good.

There's the Superwind 1250 out of Germany that looks legit:

The AirForce 1 out of the UK looks possibly legit, though with 1.8m
rotor they are counting on a cP of 0.33, which seems kinda high to me.

[RE-wrenches] 1-2KW windturbine

2023-08-17 Thread pieter offgridenterprises.org via RE-wrenches
For those of you looking for a viable small wind turbine the Superwind might be
worth consideration.
I have no field experience with the Superwind products but have seen them in
person. The craftsmanship is outstanding, and the system certainly appears to
be designed and built to survive the elements.

Jay and Roy,
Join me on my crusade to get the PIKA T701 back into production.
It was the best I ever owned but had to sell it to a customer when
PIKA stopped production.
Still lots of their 100 units produced are out there somewhere. I just
found one currently running
in a very poor wind site that the owner is willing to sell. I can't
wait to get it back on my tower!
Specs are still found on NAZ website. Google PIKA T701
