Re: [RE-wrenches] Solar Edge Experience?
No trunk cable is bonus. Working with regular PV cable is easier on stocking materials. Safe working voltage is real bonus and makes testing during installation reasonable. Strings over 12 is bonus. Sometimes, 16, 18+ makes sense physically. Now it can make sense electrically. With different solar exposures. Still needing to use metal conduit inside is sometimes a hassle, but MC cable makes it doable. No way to test communication with optimizer until DC voltage is applied. This means if you have a DOA optimizer that reads correct voltage, you are removing modules to get to an optimizer. That is a drag. Support is pretty good. The new 7kw inverter matched to 40a OCP to max out residential 200A panel backfed breaker sounds good. Re: [RE-wrenches] Electric fence, metal buildings, lightning protection systems
SB3000TL-US inverters. The concern is possible voltage that may lead the inverter to believe there is a ground fault because of fence connections. I wonder what the tolerable window of voltage of + or – to ground is for this unit before it cries GF. During a drizzle I had a little tingle while assembling EMT. I did not get a meter out, but it sorta felt like a 9V battery across your tongue. [RE-wrenches] Utility inverter rating
Greetings all. I recently received this back regarding an interconnection application proposing a Sunny Island 6048 and a SB7000: "we have to rate the system at the max output of the inverters, and since that battery backup has an inverter that can export 11kW, (albeit for 3 seconds) I have to review the system for a total of 18kW." This is a new one on me. I might argue that the SB7000 is upstream of the SI6048 and really the SI6048 is the point of interconnection, so the SB7000 is irrelevant. And 3 seconds is not really continuous operation. It seems that batteryless inverters show continuous output ratings, though I know there are some that specify a larger than expected OCP for various reasons, but that is not what the utility cares about. Any insights here? Re: [RE-wrenches] Combating requests for itemized PV pricing
I find the rough percent breakdown as you suggest is useful in getting them to understand that they don't need those numbers or an itemized BOM before they agree to do a project. There are many customers that think if total cost is X and modules are Y that the cost to install is REALLY expensive at X-Y. If we were selling itemized lists, I'd be running buysolarcraponline.com, so I refrain from providing lists. My contract is for a total sum. If the prospect does not want a turnkey solution, then they are not a good fit for those of us that provide these products and services. And that is OK. Some days are easier going down this road than others. http://www.steelconduit.org/pdf/ConGuide.pdf page 16 The NEC does not directly dictate when expansion coupling are required for EMT. 300.7 merely says to accommodate for expansion. If a NABCEP stamp of some kind makes the city happy and greases your permit approval, that's OK. If it is a city requirement, then we'd sure like to know about that. IF you do have one made, please remember to follow the NABCEP guidelines as to the use of our "Mark". IE, your name -not the company name and not nothing- has to appear next to the Mark.
