[RE-wrenches] Looking for Alternative 2-pole Breaker for Square D Homeline

2020-11-12 Thread Gregory Seelhorst
Obi-Wrench Kenobis -

In Southern CA we are finding it more and more challenging to find reliable
sources of Square D *HOMELINE* 2-pole breakers for Solar Circuit and
Monitoring tie-ins.

Other than buying Homeline Single-Pole Breakers and using Handle-Ties, does
anyone have an alternative or reliable vendor source (online or brick &
mortar), or 2-pole breaker manufacturer accepted by Square D?
I know Eaton says their breakers are 'compatible' ("Notes: Replacement for
Square D Homeline") , but not sure if anyone has sought exceptions by
Schneider or had issues with Inspectors or Electricians for New Home
Construction who don't allow Eaton breakers in their Square D panels.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Optimal 200 or 225 Amp Square D MSP All-in-One meter for CT Clamps

2016-02-17 Thread Gregory Seelhorst
Thank you for your contributions. The meter/main Combo is the preferred
solution here. I do like the Milbank solution with longer Feeders.

Has anyone used the SC816F200PS Square D all-in-one?
Square D (Schneider) is advertising this as a "Homeline Solar-ready
Combination Service Entrance" where it can accomodate CTs.

[RE-wrenches] Optimal 200 or 225 Amp Square D MSP All-in-One meter for CT Clamps

2016-02-17 Thread Gregory Seelhorst
Wrenches -

Does anyone know of a good spec for a 200 or 225A Square D Main Service
Panel which has feeders between the meter and Main Disconnect and would be
ideal for 150A CT clamps for monitoring whole house consumption?

I'm finding most MSPs have a short, flat bus between the meter and Main
Disconnect which requires the Rigowski Coil (requiring more expensive and
unreliable hardware).

Thank you for your help in advance.

Re: [RE-wrenches] TL Inverters & Rapid Shutdown

2015-01-19 Thread Gregory Seelhorst
Wrenches -

I wanted to bring up the topic of SMA TL inverters, SPS outlets, and Rapid
Shutdown function. In light of some AHJs where the 2014 NEC is already in
effect, I would appreciate how anyone has insight on how to address the
topics below:

*Re: SPS integrated outlet* - Citing 2014 NEC 690.61 and 690.10(B), is
there any resistance to SMA's Technical paper on the topic (
http://files.sma.de/dl/18726/EPS-US-TB-en-11.pdf) and what is being done to
appease them or make corrections any notices.

Also would appreciate if you have suggestions on warning placards (to the
effect of ‘this outlet only works when the switch is in the ‘ON’ position,
inverter will not backfeed in the ‘OFF’ position), please contact me
off-line if you like.

*Re: Rapid Shutdown function* – Regarding the new Rapid Shutdown capability
function (http://files.sma.de/dl/18726/EPSCompl-US-TB-en-14W.pdf) which
complies with 690.12; Question, *can or must this be used in conjunction
with the SPS?* Just wanted clarification of this functionality.

My understanding is that if other Rapid Shutdown devices (DC contactors,
Midnite Solar relays, etc.) are used, the SPS function can not be used. My
question is that *if the Rapid Shutdown function is optional or a
requirement when deploying the SPS function.*

Greg Seelhorst
