Re: [RE-wrenches] After market SMA TL inverter shade covers

2016-09-01 Thread Benn Kilburn
Actually there would NOT be any direct sun exposure (sun passing north of
overhead) around midday around here. The only direct sun exposure on a north
wall would be in the summer mornings and evenings.
See the sun path chart on this linked page
http://www.gaisma.com/en/location/edmonton.html

Midday sun on a north wall in Panama??? Now that is another story.

2016-08-29 Thread Benn Kilburn
Bill and Jay,
I didn't hear it from Enphase directly myself, otherwise I would have called
BS.
Around here, if they are on a north facing wall with no obstructions to the
east or west then they would get some direct sun early and late in the day, for
maybe a month or so in the summer. Hardly an issue, you might think?

Re: [RE-wrenches] After market SMA TL inverter shade covers

2016-08-29 Thread Nick Soleil
Hi Wrenches.

Yes, our product is NEMA 6, so is pretty robust once the DC and AC cables are
connected. That said, our M215 Installation and Operation Manual states that
the microinverters should not be installed in a location that allows for "long
term exposure to direct sunlight." The challenge with north facing locations
is that the sun does pass to the north of direct overhead for several hours a
day in the summer months. Depending on the amount of exposure during the
summer afternoons, this could be problematic.

facing wall (rooftop equipment enclosure). The modules are installed about 75'
away as decorative(?) awnings for a downtown penthouse suite.
So far about 3 of the enphase inverters (M215's I believe, would have to double
check) have failed and have been replaced and I recently was on the service
call where enphase determined that 4 more would need to be replaced as well.
Enphase is claiming that the inverters are failing because they are exposed to
the elements.
We are in the process of designing a cover for them that would provide at least
as much protection as a module would.

Andrew

We had some problems last year with some of the fronius primos leaking in
rain / wind conditions. Customer had a local shop tig weld an aluminum shell /
box that went around the unit. Had a shelf at the top that stuck out like the
brim of a hat. Worked great. We had also looked for something and this custom
made box was reasonably priced, looked great and solved the leaking issue. If
you want pictures let me know.

Has anyone used or had success with any kind of a shade cover?.. specifically
for the SMA TL inverters? We have one that is going to get hit by the sun
pretty good.
