Re: [RE-wrenches] Feedback on Sunny Web Box and Sunny Portal

John -

The hardware is fairly easy to install but requires attention to detail. The
user interface is very customizable if you have techie clients. One thing to
note is that the online data is not live - it tends to lag by a few hours.
You can login directly on site to get live data however. Another plus is
that there aren't any yearly service charges.

Good luck! -August

Wrenches,
I am looking into using the Sunny Web Box and Sunny Portal on some new
installations and possibly adding to some older ones. What experiences have
you had with this system? We are being asked by a large potential customer
for our experience with the data system we are quoting. One of my employees
has taken an SMA Course and has some hands on with the system but we would
like some field input. We will have students and other folks watching as we
hook this up at one of our sites.

We've used a couple. The public access feature is nice. Might require
someone with computer experience to set up the local network protocols
properly for internet access.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Feedback on Sunny Web Box and Sunny Portal

2009-01-19 Thread Carl Adams
John,

If you have multiple inverters at the same site these can be daisy chained
together on the WebBox so that all report and are summarized on the same
portal page. Wiring diagrams for this configuration are absent the SMA
documentation but the SMA support guys for this product are helpful and
knowledgeable.

I also like the Sunny SensorBox which provides Pyranometer, and module
temperature data. It also supports an ambient temperature sensor and
anemometer. If this is going into an educational setting it's nice to be
able to correlate the system output with the environmental data.

Cheers
Carl

Re: [RE-wrenches] Feedback on Sunny Web Box and Sunny Portal

2009-01-19 Thread Jeff Clearwater, Village Power Design

Hi John,

We've installed several systems with the Webbox as the primary DAS.
Works like a charm - customer's like them cause they can program
their own website pages. We like them cause they send us an email
each night on system performance and monthly summaries (or whatever
else you program). You can make the pages public or private.

Go to http://www.sunnyportal.com

and click on "Publically available plants"

you can see ongoing data from a 30.2 KW system we did at the Food
Bank of Western MA (zip 01038). There's 512 US plants available and
thousands worldwide.

Easy to install - just need a card - make up a cable and plug into
an ethernet line or dedicated modem.

Hope that helps - hope you are staying warm up there!

Best,

Jeff Clearwater

Re: [RE-wrenches] Feedback on Sunny Web Box and Sunny Portal

2009-01-19 Thread Glenn Burt
Pretty straightforward hardware setup. Easy to install the piggy back board.
Data comm. Wiring is also easy if you pay attention to detail.

The portal is a little 'foreign', but can be made to display good stuff.

You decide what graphs or pictures to display on pages you create, or use
their defaults (yuk). Haven't quite figured out how to go back in time with
the data without logging into the portal with credentials yet though.

I installed one for our local municipality. They have their own private LAN
and can see the web box directly, and all others can see it via a browser.
