Kelly. Simply, I use my phone for almost everything which is about the size of a small piece of toast these days with Samsung DeX for with bluetooth full size keyboard, mouse and HDMI display on my desk. I am able with DeX to edit a annotate pdfs, presentations, Word, Excel, micro and dc converter equipment configuration, FLIR attachment for third party inspections, irradiance, quick augmented reality survey, online meeting, email and other things. I have a Suface as secondary, I do most everything needed and a lot less as well. Re: [RE-wrenches] Good Tablets for the Solar Installer
We've experimented around with various devices, and I'll agree that the Microsoft Surface line is a good choice. You can find 3rd party heavy duty protective cases on Amazon that are worthwhile if you plan on using it in the field. Also note that the current Surface Pro 6th gen product only has one USB type A port so you'll likely need a few dongles to get your work done. I also have a Surface Go and like it. It is small, light, has a USB C port, and gets most of my work done BUT it is slow. Microsoft is holding a product release event on October 2nd that will likely have new surface products. I would wait for that if you want to either get the latest and greatest or wait for the older generation to go on sale. Costco had a good deal for a Surface Pro 6 with pen and keyboard not too long ago. Re: [RE-wrenches] Good Tablets for the Solar Installer
Kelly: I really like the tablet I use. My criteria are: 1. Windows based with full computer capabilities. 2. Portable. 3. Reliable. 4. Decent storage size. I chose the Microsoft Surface Go. Out of the box it checks all of the boxes except 4. I overcame the latter by installing a 128G micro SD card. There is a trick to mapping Dropbox to an external card but that was resolved and I have been very happy with the tablet. I did purchase an aftermarket charger to provide charging in the field. That unit is a Battpower Multifunction Travel Charger. You will also need some type of USB C hub for reading SD cards and USB drives. Top that off with an HDMI adapter for presentations and trainings and you have a complete kit.
