Re: [RE-wrenches] J Box adhesive failure.
Agree with All that Alex wrote! I will add that most of my clients are extreme rural and remote. I have been using a sealent that they can get in small town hardware store for 5 years now. It is by Lock-tite and is polyurethane. It takes a day to skin over. It is water tight as soon as it goes on for a JB. It is made for roof and flashing and holds up in the sun. Not expensive and is pretty amazing at the many other uses. It can repair just about any plastic/rubber that is cracked. It needs to be sealed with a 5" bolt to preserve the tube after it is open. It will not last more than a week or so without it. Hi John, I like polyurethanes for this sort of thing. They are substantially stronger than RTV, and if you need to re-do it, you won't be left with that oily texture that nothing else will stick to. "3M Marine Adhesive Sealant Fast Cure 4000 UV" might be a good choice, and Sikaflex also makes some really good options. One downside is that even the "fast cure" polyurethanes cure rather slowly. If you go with RTV, look for a "neutral cure" type. Others typically off-gas acetic acid when they cure, which can corrode wiring. Re: [RE-wrenches] J Box adhesive failure.
John; Have you tried a UV-setting cyanoacrylate? There are some available that cure into a pliable but very strong (and thick) clear layer. If you just have one J-box to do, a tube of "UV Wader Repair" from your local flyfishing shop might do the trick. It cures quickly in direct sunlight, or with a small UV flashlight. [RE-wrenches] J Box adhesive failure.
I have a customer with two TOP racks of 8 Astropower 140’s and one panel has a j box that separated from the backing sheet but the wires are still connected. I’ve tried several adhesives but they eventually give up. The house was just sold and an inspector is coming To check out the house. Owner is sure that this loose box will be found by the inspector and jinx the sale. Anybody know of a super adhesive that will hold up?
