Subject: [RE-wrenches] Pitched EPDM Roof Attachment

Hello Wrenches,

I have a job on a 3.5/12 pitched rubber roof. We have 1.5” foam under
the EPDM, then the steel decking, then the purlins. Purlin spacing
supports adequate attachment points for a conventional rail mounted
system. I have 2 questions
1) A typical L-foot attachment to the roof would likely compress the
underlying foam and result in divets at each foot. What do you
recommend to disperse the load at the point of attachment
2) What type of screw do you recommend for attaching the L-Feet to the
purlins

That¹s what came to my mind, as well, based on the description.

Hi Carl,

Have you looked at the DPW easy feet.

Very large foot that shouldn't compress the foam.
You may want to use more feet to distribute the load as well.
They may be able to give you some help on the calcs.

Carl,
In the past we have had 8x8x 1/4 aluminum plates made up by the
local machine shop for about $9 each and used them to distribute the
compression for L feet on SIP roofs. It works very well and allows you
to adequately tighten the lags and not compress the foam. For more
specifics give me a call.
