I don't know my HIPs from my HITs either, but I don't think you're correct, Jason. I checked a bunch of pdfs of spec sheets for various Sanyo modules, and it just left me more confused. The Sanyo HIP-190BA3/195BA3/200BA3 is a single-face module from around 2006. On the spec sheet is written: "SANYO HIT1 solar cells are hybrids, made of thin mono crystal silicon surrounded by ultra-thin amorphous silicon layersSANYO HIT solar panels have a black anodized aluminum frame, come pre-equipped with lead wires and plug-n-play connectors. The HIT Power 200 from 2008 has on its spec sheet "HIT Power 200 or HIP-200BA19"; also single-face. The HIT Power 215N is listed on the spec sheet as "HIT Power 215N or HIP-215NKHA5". The HIT Power 200A is only an HIT; the specs list it as "HIT Power 220A or HIT-N220A01", and there's no mention of HIP on the sheet. Enough already! Re: [RE-wrenches] Sanyo problems
The current HIP-195DA3 datasheet is here: http://us.sanyo.com/dynamic/product/Downloads/HIT%20Double%20195-1483134 .pdf So it appears that the DA designation means bifacial module... You are correct that not all HIP modules are bifacial. For example, the current model numbers HIP-195BA20 and -195BA19 (aka HIT Power 195) are not bifacial, but do have the "rear-side electrode" below the thin silicon layer. This is what makes it a bit confusing if not familiar with the modules. The marketing name of HIT bifacials are "HIT Double." All bifacial part numbers start with HIP, but all HIP part numbers are not bifacial modules. Sanyo is not doing itself any favors by making the model number designations so confusing. Bottom line: I need to figure out if the HIT Doubles (bifacials) are affected by these alleged problems. I would assume problems that affect any HIT module would also affect the bifacials, so I may have partially answered my own question. Re: [RE-wrenches] Sanyo problems
Ps I have a copy of Sanyos response but I am travelling and don't remember the details. Contact me off list for a copy. For example, the cur rent model numbers HIP-195BA20 and -195BA19 (aka HIT Power 195) are not bifacial, but do have the “rear-side electrode” below the thin silicon layer. This is what makes it a bit confusing if not fam iliar with the modules. The marketing name of HIT bifacials are “HIT Double.” All bifacial part numbers start with HIP, but all HIP part numbers are n ot bifacial modules. I checked a bunch of pdfs of spec sheets for various Sanyo modules, and it just left me more confused. The Sanyo HIP-190BA3/195BA3/200BA3 is a single-face module from around 2006. On the spec sheet is written: "SANYO HIT1 solar cells are hybrids, made of thin mono crystal silicon surrounded by ultra-thin amorphous silicon layersSANYO HIT solar panels have a black anodized aluminum frame, come pre- equipped with lead wires and plug-n-play connectors. Marco, can you send out the Photon article after all? I don't think you were mistaken. Maybe we have a real concern here after all. Re: [RE-wrenches] Sanyo problems; None here
We sell Sanyo but no Bi-facial models. We only do off grid, industrial battery and RV systems. No failures and outstanding performance from Sanyo. Too bad they void the warranty for mobile and marine applications, though. It would otherwise be our #1 seller. Michael - This has come up before. I'm probably missing something simple but the problem for me is that Wrenches emails do not contain the senders original address in a way that I've been able to find it. Any suggestions about where I can find the senders email? Re: [RE-wrenches] Sanyo problems (now email etiquette question)
August it depends on which email program you use. With MS Outlook or Express, right click on the specific email when it's highlighted. A menu appears with 'Options' or 'Properties'at the bottom. Click it and you get a jumble of text that has 'from' listed somewhere. there it is, just highlight it and copy it. Just be sure not to reply or we all will get to read it.
