[RE-wrenches] Small Off-Grid Inverter Recommendation
Any recommendations from those of you with extensive off grid experience for a small inverter, sine wave, 500-1000 watt range 120 vac output, 12 or 24 VDC nominal input? I'm looking for something with low standby losses when there are no loads, and high reliability. Thanks! Re: [RE-wrenches] Small Off-Grid Inverter Recommendation
Jeff; I have experience with the MMS series from Magnum. Nice little inverter/chargers, low standby losses, but not available in 24v. I chose them for some remote installations because of small size and price point. We had trouble with an earlier model that failed when a generator ran out of gas, but Magnum replaced it free of charge with a newer one and no issues with that. We also had an issue with another installation where the inverter did not find the output from a Honda 3000i to its liking.problem traced to that individual Honda, not the Magnum. -- Dan Fink, Executive Director Buckville Energy Consulting Buckville Publications LLC NABCEP / IREC accredited Continuing Education Providers 970.672.4342 (voicemail) 970.373.1311 (FAX) Jeff Irish wrote: Any recommendations from those of you with extensive off grid experience for a small inverter, sine wave, 500-1000 watt range 120 vac output, 12 or 24 VDC nominal input? Re: [RE-wrenches] Small Off-Grid Inverter Recommendation
For me, the only one that fills that bill is the US made Magnum MMS inverter. http://www.magnumenergy.com/Products/MMSseries.htm If you don't want a built in TX and charger, we have had good success with the imported Samlex SA series made by Cotek. Available in 12 or 24 volt. http://samlexsolar.com/solar-products/pure-sine-wave-inverters/sa-series Larry Crutcher Starlight Solar Power Systems On Nov 11, 2011, at 7:45 AM, Jeff Irish wrote: Any recommendations from those of you with extensive off grid experience for a small inverter, sine wave, 500-1000 watt range 120 vac output, 12 or 24 VDC nominal input? Re: [RE-wrenches] Small Off-Grid Inverter Recommendation
If you need a charger capability, look at the magnum MMS1012. Up to a 50 amp charger and it's a sinewave, don't bother with the modifieds. Sleep mode can go down to 5 watts I think. The Morningstar mppt is a good small controller that works well Later, Bob From: re-wrenches-boun...@lists.re-wrenches.org [mailto:re-wrenches-boun...@lists.re-wrenches.org] On Behalf Of Jeff Irish Sent: Friday, November 11, 2011 10:46 AM To: RE-wrenches Subject: [RE-wrenches] Small Off-Grid Inverter Recommendation Any recommendations from those of you with extensive off grid experience for a small inverter, sine wave, 500-1000 watt range 120 vac output, 12 or 24 VDC nominal input? Re: [RE-wrenches] Small Off-Grid Inverter Recommendation
Jeff, I own several Exeltec inverters for my job trailer, RV, and truck camper, and found them to put out a very high-quality pure sinewave even in their smaller models down to 125 watts, when most manufacturers only provide modified sine wave inverters in these smaller sizes. They are a little pricy, but I found them to be rugged, small, quiet, and great to power satellite systems, DVD players, laptops, and flat screen TV's. I think they are sized at 125, 250, 600, 800, and 1,100 watts, with 12 or 24 volt DC models, and the XP line is certified for Telecom application. These smaller models currently do not include a battery charger, but I am told this feature will soon be available in all of the smaller units.
