Re: [RE-wrenches] Who has the best overall solar racking solution?
Zep Solar has a nice product for sloped roofs, particularly asphalt shingle. They have 15 or so module manufacturers making panels that are Zep compatible. The layout takes a little more time and shingles do occasionally need to be cut, but the lack of rail makes for a very smooth and very clean looking array installation. - Andrew Sent from my iPhone On Sep 11, 2013, at 1:34 PM, "Larry Crutcher, Starlight Solar Power Systems" wrote: > Back in the 1980's we used a company called Baird (www.bairdmounts.com) to > engineer NPR mounts for satellite communication antennas. Re: [RE-wrenches] Who has the best overall solar racking solution?
If you plan to use Zep, I don't recommend you use microinverters. Module removal for microinverter replacement is a huge pain. We had a few systems with M190's on Canadian Solar Zep's and the M190 failures are causing us nightmares. I guess with the vastly improved failure rate this is less of an issue, but it's not worth the risk. On the same note, the leveling feet are completely seized after about two years, and other signs of corrosion have been seen (although not by me personally). I love the Zep concept for it's low profile, and it does look great, but there are some drawbacks. O h yeah - forgetting the special Zep tool on a service call is no fun. These thermal photos from two similar ground-mount arrays reveal vastly different systems. The Creotecc system is devoid of hot spots because mechanical stress from thermal expansion is alleviated by clampless module mounting. In addition, mounting modules from underneath the array eliminates the risk of point loads from bodyweight.
