Re: [RE-wrenches] tyco connector tool

2010-02-16 Thread Bill Loesch
Hi William,

I don't believe anyone would take exception to the philosophy expressed in
avoiding unnecessary connections. What would be two practical examples of it
with regard to avoiding additional Tyco connectors?

TIA,

  Jay:

My recommendation is to learn how to install without using one. It can be
done. Splices add additional potential for failure.

Speaking of MC tools, where is the best place to buy one? Does it
need to cost $400+?

Thanks,

Jay,
If you already have the MC tool, then the Tyco specific tool from Tyco may
be the most cost effective. We just finished a larger commercial install
where we used one and it was simple and effective. IIRC it was ~$220 from
our distributor.

Re: [RE-wrenches] tyco connector tool

2010-02-15 Thread Glenn Burt
We have bought a few recently, but be careful - there has been some
manufacturing shortage (according to Multi-Contact) and all have been
shipped with crimping dies for the MC-3 connector and not the MC-4s that we
bought them for...

Of course the dies we are told are not sold separately...

YMMV

Jay,

You might want to consider a multi-purpose tool:
