Alright, after trying several combinations (".", " ", "@")
this last one worked.

www IN CNAME mydomain.com.
@ IN A xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa

Thanks...

Re: Bind 9.2.1 question

2002-09-29 Thread Arman Magluyan

Sorry about the typo but I had it there. I just tried your suggestion
. IN CNAMEwww.mydomain.com.

but it does not like that. I searched Bind 9's archive and suggested this :

  IN CNAMEwww.mydomain.com.

and it did not complain when it loaded up the zone but when I ping
mydomain.com, I don't get to anywhere. Nslookup mydomain.com did not give me
any either.

Bind 9.2.1 question

2002-09-29 Thread Arman Magluyan

I upgraded my DNS from Bind 8 to Bind 9.2.1. I have a CNAME for my
domain name to one of the A record like this:

mydomain.com INCNAMEwww.mydomain.com

The new Bind rejects this and would not load my zone. Any idea how
this is done with the new Bind ?

Thanks...

I'm trying to access the archive but could not remember my password, so I
will just email my question to the list.

I have anon-ftp and wu-ftp installed on my Linux box but could not upload
anything giving "550:test Permission denied on server. (upload dirs)." When
I login as a user, I could upload my files.

I would like for an anonymous user to be able to upload their files, can
anyone help me look where the problem is.

Connection problem

2002-04-07 Thread Arman Magluyan

I just installed RH7.2 and could not make it to connect to my network. I
have an SMC 9432 card which is supported by RH according to their web site.
I can only ping myself. I replaced my NIC with another SMC 9432 also
replaced the CAT5 cable, and plugged to another port but still would not
connect. How would I know if the driver is bad ? How can I reinstall the
driver ? Any ideas or suggestions to isolate this problem would be
appreciated.

Reverse Lookup problem

2002-04-05 Thread Arman Magluyan

Hi All,

I have a DNS at home using RH 7.2 with reverse lookup for my single static
IP connected to DSL. When I do nslookup from my DNS I see my reverse lookup
but when I go to other DNS servers I see my DSL providers reverse lookup.

At work I have the same situation, we have two ISP's. ISP1 has T1 connection
and provides DNS/reverse for ISP1 and ISP2 IP addresses. ISP2's IP is our
mail server and ISP1's IP is our web server. However when we do a reverse
lookup for ISP2's IP we get ISP2's reverse lookup record.

It looks like ISP's reverse lookup supercedes your own DNS. How can I
correct this ?

I installed just now RH 7.2 to a Compaq Deskpro PIII 450 with SMC 9432 NIC

with another SMC 9432 and still could not ping anything. I wonder if anyone

Unable to run iptables upon bootup

2002-03-11 Thread Arman Magluyan

Hi,

I upgraded my kernel to 2.4.17 and iptables to 1.2.5 and run my script using
"/etc/rc.d/rc.firewall" which I have been using for some time now. Now that
I am confident that my firewall is working I want to save this using
"service iptables save" the response is "iptables: unrecognized service" or
"chkconfig --level 23 iptables on" response is "...no such files or
directory". Noticed also that my sym links in /etc/rc.d/ are broken and
iptables in /etc/rc.d/init.d/ is gone. Any help to solve my problem would be
very much appreciated.
mtks...

Openssh on RH7.2

2002-03-06 Thread Arman Magluyan

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be for this list but will shoot it
anyway.

I recently installed RH7.2 and upgraded the Kernel to 2.4.17. Openssh was
already running after I installed RH7.2 and tried to use ssh2 using Putty to
access my Linux box from my W98. No problem accessing using Authentication
but when I use RSA the Linux box would not recognize my private key. I added
.ssh under my account /home/user/.ssh (isn't this supposed to be installed
by default?) and added authenticated_keys with my public key from Putty.

So I thought, maybe I need to upgrade my Openssh to 3.02P and I removed
using rpm -e opensshxxx and then did untar the version from openssh.org but
it looks like this is just a client, not the daemon. Even tried the RPM
version but still no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

RH 7.2 and iptables

2002-02-15 Thread Arman Magluyan

Hi,

I just installed RH7.2 and iptables with 2 NIC, eth1 is my external NIC, and
eth0 is my internal NIC no upgrades or updates to the kernel and iptables.

Now when I do :

iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth1 -j SNAT --to-source $PUBLIC_IP

With all --policy ACCEPT, I can access anything from behind the firewall,
but when I run my script with just a simple outgoing ping (echo-request,
echo reply)all --policy DROP and the above SNAT rule, I could not access
anything from behind my firewall. I could not even ping from my firewall
box, my LAN and PUBLIC_IP, response is "ping:sendto not allowed..."

Any help would be appreciated...
