No, it should be 0.0.0.0:6000. I think that just means it's listening on
all available interfaces.

I'm running outta guesses on this one. How are you connecting between

At least that's what works for me at home. You might want to read through

Re: RHN basic subscriber .ISO downloads are broken

2002-03-16 Thread Gene Sais

download from a mirror site that is close to you.

>>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 03/16/02 09:52AM >>>
I have recently paid the 60 bux a year for the basic RHN. Most of the things im paying
for i realy like, and find it well worth the money.
However i do have 2 problems so far.

One: when i go into the .ISO section to try to download 7.2 it just hangs there. Does
nothing. Says getting file information in my web browser. Never starts.
Allthough i do see alot of activity on my cable modem, yet nothing going to the hard
disk itself.

Two: Redhat does not have the beta .ISO's available for download. This one REALY erked
me alot. I feel Redhat should add its beta .ISO's to that section.

The reason i mainly bought the account was to get better speed and stay up to date
with redhat products. up2date is great now. The .ISO scene im realy not happy with. I
have also talked about this to people on IRC channels, every single one of them said
they were upset that there were no beta .ISO's. Also i had 1 other person try to
download any .ISO. He had the same ressults. Just sits there. My account is now days
old, and fully active. Everything else works.

Jim.

I'm sure this will differ by implementation, so perhaps Gene's

Re: Re[4]: RH 7.2 CDROM issue, Dell OptiPlex GX1

2002-02-23 Thread Gene Sais

Mike - Nero 5.5 works as you explained, but I had 5.0 which doesn't support .iso file
but there is a work around described at this link
http://www.linuxiso.org/neroburning.html

Gene

>>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 02/22/02 23:04 PM >>>
Gene, that's weird you had to do something
special to get Nero working.

I installed this RH7.2 system from ISOs dled from
Gnutella and rh FTP and burned on Nero 5.5.4.0 on
a WinXP Pro Corporate system using this relatively
standard method:

Open Nero to "Nero Burning Wizard"
check "Compile a new CD" > Next
check "Other CD formats" > Next
check "Create a CD from an image file" > Next >
   Finish
Opens to "Open" dialog box, where you can browse
to an *.iso or *.nrg file > Open
Opens to "Nero Wizard [Burn CD]" window
check "Burn" or "Test and burn" radio button
uncheck "Create image" box (checked will simply
copy the image file to a virtual CD drive)
 select write speed
 click "Burn"
Opens to compilation burning window, which burns.

Aside from accidentally dling the second music CD
from the artist "Enigma" from Gnutella, everything
went fine for me (yes, I actually burned it and
tried to put it in the CD-ROM when it asked for
CD#2 during the install -- yes, I then went to rh
FTP site to dl it!! ;) The installation didn't
mind waiting tho' oops!).

1st of all, thank you to all who responded. Someone mentioned the linux iso site and
I found the solution. It was the CD burner software NERO. I am using Nero 5.0 and it
didn't support burning native ISO files. However, there is a work around. I followed
these instructions and it worked:

http://www.linuxiso.org/neroburning.html

This is wrong.

GS> Do I need to expand the iso files or can RH install using them?

The CD burner software you use should be able to "expand" them on it's own.

GS> PS. Do I need to use WinImage or WinISO, etc.?

No.

An ISO file is a single file representing the contents of a CD. All (that I
know of) CD burning software is capable of creating a working CD from an
ISO. Some have their own "Image" format as well.

I don't use Nero so I can not tell you the exact thing to look for.

What you need is something that says "Create CD from Image" or "Create CD
using ISO" or something along those lines. This will "expand" the contents
of the ISO properly onto the CD. You should wind up with the contents (once
burned) looking similar to the RH 7.1 you have (of course not exactly as it
is a different version). It should also be bootable at that point as well.

Have fun,

Re: Re[2]: RH 7.2 CDROM issue, Dell OptiPlex GX1

2002-02-21 Thread Gene Sais

Brian - I think you are correct. I suspect its a bad burn. I am using nero burner. I
burned the CD using boot cd, also tried compiling new CD option. What files are
needed to install RH 7.2?

On the CD's now:

CD1: .iso & boot.img
CD2: .iso

Do I need to expand the iso files or can RH install using them? I checked the RH "how
to install" link and it doesn't mention details about dealing w/ ISO files. I never
used them before. The only CDs that work are 7.1 CDs that I purchased. These CDs
list all the files needed for the install.

PS. Do I need to use WinImage or WinISO, etc.?

Are you saying that when you look at this CD on an already running system
that you see only one file on it? (foo.x.x.iso)

If that is the case, then you mistook how to create a CD from an ISO.

Interesting note, official CD works (purchased), not an ISO image file. The
downloaded ISO file burned to CDROM does not work. It boots but can not find a Red
Hat CDROM. Does the burnt CDROM require the boot.img or is the ISO file good enough
to boot from?

Official CDs or ones you burnt yourself? If the latter, reburning
might be a good idea.

Re: RH 7.2 CDROM issue, Dell OptiPlex GX1

2002-02-21 Thread Gene Sais

i think it finds the cdrom, just can't find the files needed for install (i.e. iso
file). i just tried a rh 7.1 cd and it worked. this cd is not a single iso file but
rh distribution (all the files expanded). maybe it doesn't work w/ iso files?

hi,
I think your cd is fine.
It sounds like the install cd kernel does not see your cdrom.
I think you can press alt-f2 to get to a kind of a shell prompt.
>From there you might be able to see what it picked up.
You can also try to create an install floppy and try booting with that.
May be, it then picks up the cd. I once had that working for a simelar
problem
on an older rh version.

Hi All - Newbie to this list. I have created a boot cd w/ boot.img and rh 7.2 iso
