the system is brand new, with 128 mb of ram and a 500 pIII.. 100 mhz system 
bus.. would be upgrading from a rage 128 chipset to the geforce 256 chipset 
.. I'm hoping I'd notice a difference : )

My computer shipped with a 2x agp card; could I replace it with a 4x agp 
card, or do I need a new mobo ? btw, does agp 2.0 = agp 4x ?

I had a similar virus detection program .. it thought that LILO was a virus 
and gave me problems.  Disabled the virus scanner because it was more a pain 
in the butt and took up more system resources than was necessary.

sound problems

I finally got X to work!!! Thanks to everyone for helping me solve my 
problem.  I have 1 more problem .. my sound card.  I have an Aureal A3D 
vortex sound card, and I seem to be having problems getting it to work.  
sndconfig recognizes it, but says it's not supported.  Is there any way to 
emulate windows standard sound, or try and use a different driver ?

Did you use the XFCom x server ?  Because everything seems to be about the 
same as what I have except the identifier, which in the XFCom.readme file it 
said to have as r128.

sound drivers

I have an Aureal A3D Vortex 2 sound card, and I seem to be having problems 
getting it to work.  Sndconfig recognizes it, but says it's not supported.  
I'm sure I can get it to work with a different, generic sound driver .. how 
do I pick a different one ?

x problems

I got the XFCom_128 server installed, but when I type startx and X starts, it 
runs at an extremely low resolution.  I've run xf86config, and configured 
everything properly, but it won't run at a higher res.  Any suggestions?
Running an ATI Rage 128 agp card,, and stock red hat 6.1.
