Re: a tool for converting from *.avi to vcd or svcd?

Transcode seems to handle a lot of video convertions http://www.theorie.physik.uni-goettingen.de/~ostreich/transcode/ RPMs are at freshrpms.net Not sure if it does what you want though, but it's worth having a look. Key binding (with xmodmap)
Hi, 1. Question: I would like to bind the PrtScr key to some letters which are difficult to access (on a German keyboard). I can do simple key binding, like with xmodmap -e 'keycode 111=backslash' the prtScr now returns a backslash, but how do I use Ctrl, Shift or Alt? if I want e.g. Shift-PrtScr to return | and Ctrl-PrtScr € (Euro sign)? I thought from the Xmodmap man page that xmodmap -e 'keycode 111=backslash bar' means that the shifted key returns the bar, but it doesn't. Why? And how do I use alt and Ctrl? 2. Question: In the documentation of Xkb a 'hyper' and 'super' key are mentioned - what are they supposed to do? Do they act like the Alt or Ctrl and modify other keys? Thanks for any help! Stephan PS: I used xev to get the keycode 111 for the PrtScr key. -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
PDF to Palmdoc converter?
Hi, I'm looking for a tool to convert pdf files to the Palmdoc format (used on Palm Handhelds). Can't find anything on google (only windows tools). Any ideas? Most convenient would be a command line tool that I can run on a directory full of pdfs. Abiword (1.99.2) can save documents in Palmdoc, but it can't open PDF. Thanks for all suggestions! Basically OK, only the driver for PCMCIA was a problem (which I think is disabled in RH9 anyway?). I had to recompile the kernel following the procedures at http://home.gagme.com/greg/linux/toshiba1115.php Of course if you don't need PCMCIA slots that wouldn't be a problem. Power management is not working - there seems no way to put it into sleep mode (or suspend or whatever its called) - or more precisely, no way of waking it up again. This can be sort of serious if you use it a lot on batteries. But all other bits are working, including sound card and softmodem (using the Smartlink driver mentioned on the above web page). Haven't tried the CD Rwriter. Cheers Stephan -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
Printing in Openoffice and general
Hi, Is it possible (and how) to set openoffice (1.0.2) to print to kprinter, i.e. can you give it the print command somewhere? Thanks for any hint. The reason for asking is that I have a laptop which is connected to different printers at different times, and they all work nicely from KDE applications, but openoffice only gives me "Generic printer" which seems to be a network printer that I'm using in the office, so all jobs are queued and printed next time I connect to the departmental network and I can't print at home. I'm sorry if this is really a stupid question, but I must say that I find the printing setup in Linux really quite confusing, although I'm fairly computer literate (but no expert). I don't know if I can describe my setup in enough details for you to help me: I set up the network printer using the redhat-config-printer tool, and it basically found the network printer automatically, using LPD. At home I have a Lexmark Z25 for which I downloaded and installed a driver from Lexmark. Other than these two steps, I haven't fiddled with the printer settings. Actually the Lexmark shows up in the kprinter dialog and works fine, but does *not* appear in the redhat-config-printer tool - is this something to worry about? Back to Openoffice: So either I want it to sent the print jobs to kprinter (so that I can choose my Lexmark) or set up the Lexmark in a way that it is recognized by Openoffice. I actually would prefer printing through the kprinter thing because it seems better designed. Any help appreciated Thanks in advance! KDE Logout question
Hi, somethings that's been nagging me, but couldn't find a setting for it: When I log out of KDE, I only get the option to "log out 'username'", and this leads me to a new login screen. But I usually want to power off (it's a laptop and I'm the only one using it), so I have to wait for the new login screen and then choose shotdown. Is there an option so that poweroff is the default right inside KDE? Re: how to run program at every 20 days of interval
Hi, Am Freitag 30 Mai 2003 09:50 schrieb [EMAIL PROTECTED]: > In /etc/crontab, how can I specify a program to run at every 20 days > of interval. I think anacron can do what you want, according to the man page it can run programs every n days. I haven't used it, so I can't give more details, but perhaps look at man anacron. Hope that helps Cheers Stephan -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
Macro recorder/Khotkeys
Hi, I'm trying to find a macro recorder or macro language that lets me for example insert predefined text into text editors with a few keystrokes (something like CTRL-MOW -> insert "Mediterranean Overflow Water"). I'm using KDE 3.1.2 on RH9. I have searched all documentation I could think of, and the only hint is that khotkeys is supposed to do something like that. But I can't figure out how to use it. All the examples I can find tell me how to assign hotkeys to programmes, but nothing how to insert text or do other repetitive tasks that involve keystrokes and/or mouse clicks. Can anybody please show me how to start or where to find the documentation for khotkeys, or if there is another macro programme? Thanks a lot in addvance Stephan -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
