Not just you. Both Mozilla and Netscape render it poorly. netscape
mangles the main page but Mozilla seems to handle it fine.

Tell me about it -- I've been spending a fair bit of my holiday working on
this issue in one way or another. Believe me, all of us in the company
understand the gravity of the situation...

i'm aware of that. but it's not at all clear why that gives him
special privileges, any more than being an employee of, say, ford
motor company would give that employee the right to use ford's
trademark.

i've perused the pages regarding trademarks at www.redhat.com, and page 4
of that collection of pages states that the only way to use the trademark
"red hat", or the shadowman logo, is by entering into a written license
agreement with red hat. ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS. (emphasis in original)

that's good to hear since, as it is, the current situation is confusing,
bordering on intolerable. can someone write a book on "red hat linux
administration" without signing an agreement with red hat? can someone
say that their web site is "powered by red hat" without signing an
agreement? and do i need to point out the absurdity of on-line
stores like cheapbytes or linuxmall, being able to completely legally
*sell* copies of red hat linux, but not legally being able to
*identify* what they're selling? the mind reels.

sorry to harp on this, but i think this is a fairly serious issue.
for better or worse, the brand name "red hat" is, in some parts of
the world, becoming synonymous with "linux". and red hat desperately
needs to clarify what people can and cannot do with that brand name.
and telling people that they can't refer to red hat linux as "red hat
linux" is not a reasonable approach.

anyway, i'll just hang out and wait for the word from red hat.

He's a Red Hat employee.

The issue is being discussed within the company. Unfortunately, due to the
holiday shutdown, it will be a while before anything is publicly
announced. Rest assured that the issue is not going to stand as-is
forever...

Wasn't visible under Mozilla 0.9.6 either.. Just select the area where
the text should be and it should become visable. (or just RTFS) :)

which brings up a sticky issue: given that the main page of that site
clearly states that "This site is NOT an official Red Hat site.", by whose
authority are you using the trademarked name "Red Hat Linux", not to
mention incorporating the trademarked shadow man logo on that web page?

some day, it really would be nice if we could get this whole trademark

Thanks, it looks interesting!

Is it just me or is there no text on the account creation page? I see a
dropdown box for the timezone, and another to choose an icon. Other than
that, lots of boxes to fill in, with no text description to indicate what
values might belong in them. ;)

Announcing rhlug.org

2001-12-25 Thread Bernhard Rosenkraenzer

Happy holidays!
As a little present, I've just launched rhlug.org.

What will it do? Well, you get to decide. It's a site from Red Hat Linux
users for Red Hat Linux users.

Since the domain was registered yesterday, not all ISPs will know about
it yet; if you can't access http://www.rhlug.org/, try http://rhlug.bero.org/.
