Re: How to get usb ports running, to use with digtal camera?
Got the ports working, thanks for the input all. I did this as root from the command line: modprobe usbcore modprobe usb-uhci mount -t usbdevfs none /proc/bus/usb Also added entries in console.perms for usb: =/dev/usb 0660 0600 root Running usbview on with the camera on sees the usb hub and correctly identifies the camera. Now, how to properly set up /etc/fstab and modules.conf. I'll have at that tomorrow, but any thought appreciated. Yes, it's an FAQ. Do a google search on "linux usb faq". The very first entry that comes back tells you what modules you need to load. > If I run usbview, I get: > > "Cannot open the file /proc/bus/usb/devices. Is it as simple as /bin/MAKEDEV usb? On 03/06/02, 07:57:30PM -0500, John P Verel wrote: > Running the stock Red Hat 2.4.9-13 kernel on a Dell Workstation with two > usb slots. How to get usb ports running, to use with digtal camera?
Running the stock Red Hat 2.4.9-13 kernel on a Dell Workstation with two usb slots. Just got a digital camera that needs to live on one of them. If I run usbview, I get: "Cannot open the file /proc/bus/usb/devices. Verify that you have USB compiled into your kernel, have the modules loaded and have the usbdevfs filesytem mounted." Under /proc , I have only /proc/bus/pci. This is probably a simple FAQ (but I could not find it), but how do I get the usb ports active? I tried running kudzu at boot with the camera attached and turned on, but that did not work. TIA John -- John P.
