Folks:
I'm trying to network my office Macintosh(-es) and my
Thinkpad (running RH 7.2), using Netatalk (v. 1.5.3.1) and I'm
running into a dependency issue...
I downloaded netatalk in both tarball and RPM versions. I
recall installing it via the RPM. When I reboot Linux, I get a
"failed" message regarding netatalk and listing the
"libcrypto.so.0.9.6.1" as a missing library. I checked my system and
found a file called "libcrypto.so.0.9.6", but apparently, I'm off the
mark just a bit.
I checked RPMFind.net and the Red Hat Web site for
"libcrypto.so.0.9.6.1" and found nothing. I checked Google and found
references to it in the current version of OpenSSL (v. 0.9.6g), but
was not able to access just this library file.
I tried compiling/installing OpenSSL 0.9.6g in hopes of that
process adding "libcrypto.so.0.9.6.1" to my system, so that I can
get netatalk running (at least). This didn't resolve the problem - a
global "find" failed to locate any "libcrypto.so.0.9.6.1" file.
Any thoughts about WHY I'm having this kind of dependency
issue? Did I not install netatalk properly in the first place? I'm
confused as to why I'm getting an error about a missing library item
that seems to be NEWER than the program that I'm trying to install.
Also, I'm confused as to WHY I can't just download the
library file, instead of having to upgrade my entire OpenSSL package.
I need to be able to network my Macs and my Thinkpad. Burning
a CD-ROM to move data 18 inches seems like a serious waste of
resources!
