Check /proc/scsi/scsi for the device number, and then mount the 
appropriate /dev/sd device. You also need to make sure you have the usb 
mass storage module loaded to access a USB hard drive.

How are you trying to mount it?  USB storage devices show up as SCSI 
hard drives, so depending on your system, it is probably /dev/sda, and 
the partitions will be /dev/sda1 /dev/sda2, etc...  (Depending on how 
the drive is partitioned.)

USB external hard drive

I recently bought a maxtor USB 120 gig external hard
drive.  I have been trying to get it to work on Red
Hat 8.0.  It does not seem to recognize it when i
attempt to mount it.  Has anyone have any information
on how to accomplish this.  Thanks
