The main problem why reiserfsck does not process similar to other fscks
is that reiserfs (as well as reiser4) moves data on filesystem
modifications so that even files which were not modified recently change
their locations. Online reiserXck should be probably implemented as
kernel thread. Or be able to block filesystem updates, or I do not know
what.
So, in short, reiserXck for r/w mounted filesystem can not be implemened
as plain user land tool,imho.
Also imho, currently the problem is that it is not very clear how to do
it.
We would be happy to hear any thoughts on it.

I'm glad Reiserfs worked for him, but somehow I don't see Hans listing this
one on the "Reiserfs success stories" page. ;)

I'm not Hans, but I *will* ask "How much of this is *rationally* doable
without some help from the VFS?". At the very least, some of this stuff
will require the FS to tell the VFS to suspend its disbelief (for starters,
doing this without confusing the VFS's concepts of dentries/inodes/reference
counts is going to be interesting... :)

bitkeeper problem?

2005-05-28 Thread Ryan Michael
i'm trying to get the current reiser4 bitkeeper repository to tinker
with but every time i try to clone bk://bk.namesys.com/bk/reiser4 i get
"bk://bk.namesys.com/bk/reiser4: Connection refused".

i'm a CVS user and this is my first time using BK, so it could be a
configuration problem, but i can't find anything that describes a
problem such as this, and a lot of people talking about problems with
the BK daemon causing these problems.

thanks for any help!
