[evolution-data-server] Hard-code freeze break request

2014-03-19 Thread Milan Crha
Hello,
I would like to ask for a hard-code freeze break for
evolution-data-server due to [1], where is reported that a migration of
data can fail when the GConf is configured to conform to XDG folder
settings. The attached patch at [1] is pretty simple, it only checks
whether the XDG folder exists, and if yes, then it uses it for account
migration, otherwise the default folder as before is used.

I believe it will be good to have it included in 3.12.0.
Thanks and bye,
Milan

The patch looks fine to me. But is gconf migration still relevant to
include at all ? In any case, +1 for the release team.

better to have it included. Evolution-data-server doesn't depend on
GConf library, it only plays with its internal files (which has its
advantages and disadvantages too).

Thanks for the approval, to you both, I'm committing this to sources.

I'm hesitant to approve this. Many translation teams have not yet
finished updating translations for 3.12, and we have only a couple of
days left. Maybe other coordinators feel different.

I don't know how many Gnome translators have subscribed the i18n list.
Maybe they prefer be silent, I'm personally a little unhappy
with your messages again and again to break string freeze.

Actually short after the scheduled string freeze, our zh_CN team have
finished 3.12 translation. But since then, you developers are keeping
changing strings.
Though easy to update and commit, I personally decide to wait for the
silence of your mails before fixing them.
Yes we translator should follow your pace. But can your work be more
predictable? If the release schedule is something to break so freely,
why do you set that?
And, before the string freeze, for a long time, I saw few string
change announcements. I don't know if it's a habit to leave the string
changes to the last minutes?

I do think there should be better communication between developers and
translation teams (at least team coordinators) here. For example, give
a banner on top of Damned Lies
about your activities, plans and instructions for translation (please
translate after MM/DD, translate xx branch now, etc.)

Just my personal opinion.

RE: Missed Release 3.11.92 for gnome-sound-recorder, Request to Include Bug Fixes Either in Late Release or in 3.12

2014-03-19 Thread meg ford
Hi,

I ran into some strange issues with Fedora 20 on wacom this past weekend,
and was not able to make a release for 3.11.92 because of an unusable
system. David King has pointed out that I have a bug in
gnome-sound-recorder which is causing the AUTHORS and COPYING files to not
be included[1]. He has also suggested that I make some changes to the
README and NEWS[3] files. Is it possible for me to make these changes and
either include them in a late release or in 3.12? If so, should I send a
request to any other lists?

Sorry for the issues.

Thanks,
Meg Ford

it turned out that a write to an IMAP folder of a certain message type
can lead to a data loss, which was reported as [1]. The bug contains a
trivial fix, which would be good to have in 3.12.0.
Thanks and bye,

Hard code freeze break for GNOME Photos

2014-03-19 Thread Aruna S
Hi, we would like to integrate the help for GNOME Photos in this release.
The patch for the pages till now can be found on this bug:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=711505 and the help is
mostly ready to be integrated.

The integration would also involve building the help and creating a
button in the application UI for the help(Hence the freeze break
request).

This should be complete by tomorrow.

Thanks!

It would be really nice if you managed to roll a 3.11.92 tarball
todaoy or tomorrow; that way it will make it in the .92 release.

Thanks for notifying in advance. The freeze break request can be handled
once a patch is available to review.

Apart from the UI change of adding a button, would this also introduce
any new translatable strings for translators? If so, which?

Hi Kalev,

Is this a nice to have feature, or, rather, an important fix? This
late in the cycle, translators tend to only approve fixes that are deemed
critical or very important.

Yes, it's a new feature. Thanks for the feedback everybody -- it's fine
to postpone it to 3.14. We just wanted to see how the translators team
felt for including it in 3.12 since the code was ready.

Matthias has now released gnome-initial-setup 3.11.92 and has also
branched off the gnome-3-12 branch, which means the master branch is
open for development again. I'll push the changes there.
