This syncs our schedule better with distro testing schedules and gives us more time to improve the quality of .0. I've also run this by Iain to make sure it works for Ubuntu. Depending on Ubuntu's final release schedule, having .1 on October 10 might be problematic for them, so I moved it to October 3, which is earlier than we normally do. Let's treat this as an experiment and see how it goes. October 10 would have been too late for Fedora as well. October 3 works just right to get .1 into Fedora 33. +1 to the schedule from me. Can you make sure to ask me as well before finalizing the schedule next time to get Fedora's perspective? gnome-software string freeze break request for 3.30
Hi, I'd like to backport a few new error messages to gnome-software 3.30.x and looking for feedback whether to do this upstream or just backport it downstream in Fedora. This would fix a long standing issue where gnome-software shows 'Unable to update "(null)"' as an error. The fix is to split a bunch of error messages into two, e.g.: "Unable to update %s" would be replaced with "Unable to update %s" + "Unable to install updates" so that we can show the latter if we don't have the data to fill in %s. If I counted it right then it's 9 error strings changed along those lines. Would it be OK to backport this to 3.30 or should I do it downstream instead? One idea might be to co-organize a test day together with Fedora, something like https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2014-08-28_Gnome_3.14 was done for GNOME 3.14. This would get us free (installable) iso images at the very least, plus some folks who are happy to help with general non-gnome problems if any issues come up with the images. -- Kalev ___ release-team@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/release-team Release-team lurker? Thanks for the feedback everybody -- it's fine to postpone it to 3.14. We just wanted to see how the translators team felt for including it in 3.12 since the code was ready. Matthias has now released gnome-initial-setup 3.11.92 and has also branched off the gnome-3-12 branch, which means the master branch is open for development again. I'll push the changes there. String freeze break request for gnome-initial-setup
Hi, I would like to land gnome-initial-setup's wip/timezone branch before the .92 release. This unfortunately adds a new translatable string: _("We think that your time zone is %s. Press Next to continue" " or search for a city to manually set the time zone.") I know it's coming late, but it would be great to have this in the final release. Thanks and sorry for yet another freeze break request, Kalev ___ release-team@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/release-team Release-team lurker? Do NOT participate in discussions.

There is no way you could use > glib/gnome-desktop for this in 3.12? Sure, could easily drop "Two days ago" and the like, these are just the icing on the cake. The minimum plan to implement this for 3.12 would need 1 regular string: "Last checked: %s", and 3 time format strings: "%R", "%l:%M %p", "%e %B %Y" Would it make sense to only mark "Last checked: %s" for translation and leave the time format strings untranslated? I am not sure how much value there is for translating the time format stuff anyway. Does that sound better? Could leave it for 3.14 as well if it sounds like too much change in the last minute. gnome-settings-daemon: Freeze break request for the mouse plugin
Hi, Bastien asked me to request a freeze break for https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=708546 It's a simple patch that fixes a critical warning in touchpad settings code, and also makes the setting actually work -- currently it always fails to read back the value of the settings key. Hi Release Team, Last week, I asked for a freeze break to include the new gnome-settings-daemon geolocation plugin, with the promise to come back here and try and expose it in UI if it's working well enough by then. Freeze break request for gnome-settings-daemon datetime plugin
Hi, I have been working on a new gnome-settings-daemon plugin that would automatically update the system timezone based on geolocation. This is a missing feature from System Settings Date and Time panel redesign that landed in 3.10: https://live.gnome.org/Design/SystemSettings/DateAndTime The work in progress is tracked at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=706979 This is a freeze break request for landing the new g-s-d code (automatic timezone updates are disabled by default for now) and a new schema for gsettings-desktop-schemas. I'll be working on this and if everything goes well, I'll send another freeze break before 3.9.91 for landing gnome-control-center UI changes and enabling timezone updates by default. In case of complications, this can stay disabled by default for 3.10 and activatable only through gsettings.
