My recommendation remains to save it for 3.24. At this point we're only
looking for bugfixes or serious usability fixes for 3.22.

It's not really a 'change', it's more like an 'addition'. Polari still
works and feels the same, it just has a new feature.
Is this enough to leave it for 3.24?

It looks like a significant UI change; I would leave this as as 3.24
feature.

Because it wasn't obvious to me at first, I'll make it explicit: the
request is for 3.22.1 which will be released in three weeks. The
feature would not be merged in 3.22 that will be released this week.
