+1 from me on both MRs, since this is tied to the freeze break for the
lock screen itself.

That said, I fear we've pushed this *really* late. Stability during the
final weeks of the release cycle is important in order to properly test
changes and avoid regressions. Let's be more conservative in the future.

UI freeze break request for g-c-c

2020-02-18 Thread Tobias Bernard
Hello release team,

The recent lock screen changes require some adjustments to the background
settings panel, because the lock screen now uses a blurred version of the
session wallpaper rather than a separate one. This means that we need to remove
the lock screen wallpaper setting from control-center:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/merge_requests/705

In order to make the overall layout work better with only one preview, we also
need to change the thumbnails to a smaller size:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/merge_requests/706

I'd like to ask for a freeze break for these relatively small changes, which
are needed to avoid some pretty visible regressions in UX quality for the
background panel. These are pure UI changes, and don't change or introduce new
strings.

Both MRs are already reviewed by maintainers and ready to be merged.

Cheers,
Tobias

g-c-c display panel UI freeze break request to closer match the 3.30 interface

2019-02-08 Thread Benjamin Berg
Hi,

during UI review of the display panel changes a few regressions were
found. The main change is that the scaling UI should be reverted to
match 3.30. The current UI was not quite finished with some more
experimentations happening that were not finalised.

The following changes are requested:

 * Revert scaling UI to closer match 3.30 (i.e. up to 5 buttons instead
   of a dropdown menu)
 * Move arrangement instructions outside of view area. This closer
matches the 3.30 UI and avoids a UI regression where the monitors
are clipped unexpectedly at the bottom while dragging.

These changes are based on feedback from the design team and the review
in:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/merge_requests/367#note_426885

Screenshots of the panel comparing the 3.30, 3.31.90 and the patched
version can be found in the MR at:
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/merge_requests/384

UI freeze break request for gnome-initial-setup

2019-02-06 Thread Ondrej Holy via release-team
Hi,

I would like to ask for UI freeze break to add "offline mode" for
accounts page of gnome-initial-setup:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-initial-setup/merge_requests/23

The accounts page allows creating of enterprise accounts, but you have
to be online first, which doesn't have to be obvious and leads to
errors:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-initial-setup/issues/63

The "offline mode" prevents you from switching to enterprise page and
informs you about the need to be online. We have already something
similar in gnome-control-center for some time.

The mentioned merge request contains screenshots. The change is based
on mockup from Allan Day and has been already reviewed by him and by
the maintainer Will Thompson.

UI Freeze break request for control-center/wifi

Hi,

This is a very minor UI change but it can be misleading so we decided

There's now (git master) a refresh button in the Wifi list which is
supposed to trigger manually the scan for new networks. Considering

introduced this feature.

UI freeze break request for Epiphany

2017-02-19 Thread Michael Catanzaro
Hi,

We were hoping to have this finished before freeze, but unfortunately
the work was completed a week late. We have patches to add a search
engines manager to Epiphany in Bugzilla:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=776738

Screenshot attached. The UI could still use more polish, but I want to
merge it now anyway, even though it's a lot for a freeze break, for a
couple reasons:

 * It adds support for DuckDuckGo-style search engine bangs, an
important feature request.

 * It massively simplifies how search engine management works in
Epiphany. Currently it's handled by adding %s to a bookmark, which is
undiscoverable and kinda nuts. It's called "smart bookmarks." In
Epiphany 3.22, it was at least possible to edit these bookmarks
manually via the bookmarks dialog. But in current master, there is no
way to edit an existing smart bookmark. You can add smart bookmarks,
but you can never remove them.

 * Accordingly, it greatly simplifies some of the backing code for our
new bookmarks popover. The bookmarks popover has been the source of
lots of bugs recently, so simplifying this code would be very
beneficial for us. In particular, it enables us to remove the
EphyBookmarksListModel class, which is a fragile class that exists just
to filter out our smart bookmarks.

page to make it look more GNOME-ey. I attached before/after screenshots
to this bug. I'd like to push this for 3.20, ideally before tomorrow's
release and string freeze.

(Note that Carlos found a preexisting issue to fix in that bug, which
does not require any freeze break request; I'll probably deal with it
later.)

[Evolution] String/UI freeze break request for gnome-3-16

2015-06-04 Thread Milan Crha
Hello,
I just committed a change into git master of evolution for:
Follow GNOME notification settings under gnome-shell
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=735747
I was told that users of GNOME 3.16 are confused with the way evolution
notifies the users and that it doesn't follow their preference as set
in Notifications.

I added one localized string "Open _GNOME Notification settings", thus
I cannot simply commit it also to the gnome-3-16 branch, the same as
Edit->Plugins->Mail Notification->Configuration tab looks differently
in GNOME, most of the options were hidden and a button with the above
caption is shown instead.

Can I commit the same change with the added string into the evolution's
gnome-3-16 branch, please?
Thanks and bye,
Milan

P.S.: I'm not subscribed to any of the lists, thus please keep me in
the loop when replying. Thanks.

Sure, I can help as time permits. There's probably also several pages
that reference the removed toolbar. A few screenshots may also need
updating.

I actually was under the impression that the docs were also affected by
the string freeze. But I just noticed in the wiki that that's not case.

UI freeze break request for eog

2015-03-12 Thread Felix Riemann
Hi!

This is a really tiny UI freeze break request for Eye of GNOME.
While testing the new UI Allan Day found that the margin to the sides of
the revamped metadata sidebar are pretty small and suggested increasing
the margins.

It would be nice if we could get this in as the broader margins indeed
looks nicer (esp. at the window border) and improve the separation
between image and sidebar.

I prepared a Bugzilla ticket that contains comparision images and the
necessary two lines of code:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=746105

Documentation is unaffected by this change as we unfortunately didn't
manage to update the docs for the new UI in this cycle.

UI freeze break request for gnome-shell

2015-03-11 Thread Giovanni Campagna
Hello release-team,

long time no see :)

I'd like to request a UI freeze break to solve bug 660293 (which is a dupe
of 740750).

There are no screenshots in the bug, but what it does is fairly simple:
instead of popping up a network password modal dialog out of the blue, it
shows a notification asking for password.
You click on the notification and you get the usual dialog. You dismiss the
notification and the connection fails.
The UI was acked by designers.

I made sure to reuse existing strings (including some typographical fixes
which are not visible in the patch attached to the bug, but I have
locally), so this is only a UI freeze break, not a string freeze break.

Cheers

https://bug736408.bugzilla-attachments.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=285837

The change adds border styling to the find bar in Yelp, to make it match
the find bar in gedit. Without the patch, the find bar appears to float
over the content, so it would be a nice bit of polish to get the change
in.

Before the fix:
https://bug736408.bugzilla-attachments.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=285839

After the fix:
https://bug736408.bugzilla-attachments.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=285840

From the documentation side, I do not think that there are any
screenshots of Yelp in gnome-user-docs that would be affected by this
change.

Thanks!

gnome-control-center UI freeze break request

2014-02-26 Thread Marek Kasik
Bug 693183 - GNOME Printer Setup Tool: List of discovered printers
should better describe duplicate entries
 - https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=693183

I want to push a change which will better describe found print devices
in the new printer dialog.

There are 2 UI changes and 6 new strings.

The first change is a fix of a long standing bug when a selected printer
had its location shown in gray color. It uses default colors for
selected text with the patch.

The second change adds description of connection type of found printers.
It shows "USB", "Bluetooth", "Serial Port" or "Parallel Port" for local
printers below the names of found devices and "Address: %s" or
"Location: %s" for network printers.

You can see a screenshot of the changes here:
https://bug693183.bugzilla-attachments.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=270117 .

The changes were reviewed by Bastien and Allan.

gnome-shell-extensions: UI Freeze Break Request

2013-09-11 Thread Jiro Matsuzawa
Hi,

I'd like to request a UI freeze break of apps-menu in gnome-shell-extensions.

The bug is:
The order of the favorite apps in the application menu, differs in
that used in the dash
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=704248

Here are screenshots which show the effect of the patch.

Order in Dash
-
https://cloud.gnome.org/public.php?service=files&t=48806db6455e2ccbd9aace55297c3b63
It is users' favorite order.

Order in app-menu (Before Fix)
--
https://cloud.gnome.org/public.php?service=files&t=44f3b01515167917a8f2cce171b76137
It is the alphabetical order, not users' favorite one.

Order in app-menu (After Fix)
-
https://cloud.gnome.org/public.php?service=files&t=8bd19eec43e04e7f4cc3b3ef090d034e
It is the same order as that of dash.

Best regards,

gnome-control-center: UI Freeze Break request (Bug 706239)

2013-09-10 Thread Ondrej Holy
It would be nice to land this:

Bug 706239 - Background in login history is different from all other lists
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=706239
(screenshot:
https://bug706239.bugzilla-attachments.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=254567)

This patch slightly change UI of the history dialog in the User Accounts panel.
It ports history dialog to use GtkListBox instead of GtkGrid to be more
consistent with other panels. It changes background color to white as was
designed before (it has been changed with gnome themes changes before while).

The patches is reviewed and accepted to commit now by Rui Matos and approved by

Screenshots, description, and a video. Thanks Florian and Carlos. These
are very helpful. I don't see any major problems for the docs.

Re: UI freeze break request: App picker

2013-09-01 Thread Carlos Soriano Sánchez
> What are those various other changes and improvements?
- Popup never exceeds the app picker view, so there's not needed to
navigate through the view to search for an application. Also, now the popup
or the close button of the popup is never cut off. (Note that when there's
more items in the popup that don't fit, we add a scroll bar to the popup)
- The positioning of the popup is fixed in small resolutions where the
popup was displaced.
- The items inside the popup are aligned with the main app picker view.
That's itself an improvement, but this solve several bugs we have
previously. i.e. Misposicioned popup in the x position when the width of
the screen is big and the popup are in some corner position; arrow of the
popup bad drawn in a similar situation; etc.
- Changing between resolutions makes the popup to adapts the new resolution.
- As Florian said, now the icons reescale satisfying some minimums
rows/columns requirements, making the overall experience better in small
resolutions (like laptops, netbooks or tablets);
- Added some animations when opening folders, changing between pages, or
the pages indicators itself.
- Added transitions to the overall app picker (i.e. when opening a popup,
the icons now change its opacity in a transition)
- Pan action response reworked for better touch interactivity. Now instead
of a smooth scrolling, we have something similar to the workspace switcher,
but with a good touch response, taking into account the velocity the user
gives to the action (looking forward to apply the same response to
workspace switcher)
- Icons style reworked to match overall gnome-shell and to make the label
below icons more readable.

Maybe I forgot something, but I think these are the most important things.

Since there are animations, a short video to see the changes:

Can we get some screenshots of the pagination and a description of
any particular behaviors? Also, the wiki page that Florian linked
to[1] says "various other changes and improvements to make the
picker more pleasant and touch-friendly". What are those various
other changes and improvements?

Thanks for getting it to this point before .91 - I know you two have
been working very hard to get it in shape since guadec. I am in favor
of allowing this in - we don't have a very long feature list for 3.10,
this will be a great addition to it.

+1 from me.

Hey,

it is probably worth pointing out that this has been on the 3.10
feature list[0].

UI freeze break request: App picker

2013-08-31 Thread Carlos Soriano Sánchez
Hi,

It will be good if we can land the new implementation of the gnome-shell
app picker. It is not a small change, but a good change for 3.10.

It's not changing anything fundamental - the app picker still consists of
frequent and all views. All view groups some applications in folders.
It does add a lot of polish to the app picker though.

The link is: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=706081
All patches are reviewed and accepted to commit now by the gnome-shell
maintainer Florian Müllner.

Sorry for the delay to request the freeze break.

Cheers,

+1 from the docs team, as well. Thank you for providing the attachment that
shows the differences.
