KWin Composite has performance issues (big ones) on hardware where
other 3D compositing programs run perfectly smoothly. Perhaps we just
need to optimize for some hardware or something, and it's not a
showstopper (since composite can be disabled), but it will ruin a lot
of first impressions of KWin 4 in it's current state.

  Speaking about kwin:

Not necessarily for the beta-goals, but for the final release somebody
should sit down and fix the xinerama issues in kwin as well. I'm rather
astonished that xinerama is basically completely broken, because I was
under the impression that the standard kwin code didn't change that
  much (i.e. the non-compositing stuff)...

How do you propose we do that when few, if any, of the kwin developers use
 xinerama?

This belongs to a kwin list really, but they should have at least a
remote idea what they changed that completely broke xinerama - I'm not
only talking about windows not being on the screen where I want them.
I'm talking about menus always popping up on the first screen, no matter
where the application window is and about KWin not even knowing there
are more than 1 screens attached.

Andreas, who will now subscribe to yet another ML just to get a usable
KDE4.0

assuming that I have a state thats builds (which takes 2-3 days sometimes),
the actual tarball upload etc only takes 1-2 hours. Can`t say anything about
the release announcement though, that might take a lot more time.

well, I agree that we shouldn`t name it beta3. we could name it beta 2.5,

I`m still all for doing another snapshot on wednesday.

Nice!
There's a bug with the core libs changes though.
The first bugfix says See SVN commit 669594. and this is a link to
http://websvn.kde.org/branches/KDE/3.5/kdelibs/core libs/?rev=669594view=rev
which doesn't exist (see the core libs in there :)
Too much automation in the xml-php transformation it seems?

Audio questions

2007-09-24 Thread Tom Albers
Hi,

In the mail I received from Matthias Kretz, there were also some questions for
us to answer.

Quote:
 - For the 4.0 release I'd like to make libasound 1.0.14a a requirement (I
 just
installed 1.0.15rc2 and it fixes another crash for me *sigh*).

Is the requirement list already frozen?

 - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=284171 (short version: lazy
symbol resolving in glibc is not threadsafe and can deadlock) This bug can
cause spurious deadlocks. If at all possible I'd like to see us requiring
 this
glibc version (the fix was posted on Tue, 18 Sep 2007 so perhaps there's a
bit of dreaming involved on my side...)

Anyone who can comment on this?

 - xine-lib behaves bad wrt. memory allocations. run e.g. mediaobjecttest in
 valgrind --tool=massif
 - run valgrind aplay -D default -f cd /dev/urandom and see for yourself. :'(

Not sure what the question is, but can we bug anyone who can help Vir with this
one?
