Yep. I just added the following to the 4.3 release schedule page on techbase
[1]

 January 21st, 2010: Tag KDE 4.3.5
 January 28th, 2010: Release KDE 4.3.5

Dirk, can you also send out an email telling people that this will happen
and that 4.3 branch is officially "done" after 21 Jan?

So far there was no announcement about stopping 4.3 maintenance, as far as I
know.

IMHO a 4.3.5 makes sense, at least from the "fixes are good perspective". I've
also received requests from the packagers at Redhat who would like to have
some more fixes than 4.3.4 provides.

How about announcing tagging to happen by January 21st and release a week
later?

JuK has a crash-on-shutdown fix in branch which could make a 4.3.5 worthwhile
for kdemultimedia at least.

But on the other hand that fix was put in because of some packagers prodding
me so I'd expect that fix to have been picked up downstream anyways. ;)

I don't mind doing it. :)

If other feel it's not worth it, that's also fine with me.

I think we've been pretty good about making announcements. If not, we should
fix that.

Apparently there's no strong desire for a 4.3.5.
So let's leave it up to the folks who do the actual release work.

Understandable. However, bugfix releases are more likely automatically
downloaded by distributions, while major KDE releases are not. So providing
bugfix releases as long as we can affects quite a lot of people. Hence,
backport + another maintenance release is quite welcome (if there are fixed
bugs in the branch).

...of course nothing really new, but worth to mention once in a while.
That is: developers should be stressed more to backport ;)

Correct.

No, but of course it could be done the other way round: announce 4.3.5, then
we'll backport. Although I'd kind of hate spending time backporting all the
stuff instead of fixing more bugs for 4.4.0...

I can count 64 commits (not much), some of them important enough like fixing a
copyright violation in kstars.

Did devels effectively backport to make it worth a new release?

I'd have time to do it, no problems there.

4.3.5?

2009-12-21 Thread Allen Winter
Howdy,

I think we should have a 4.3.5 release, and this should
be the final release in the 4.3 series.

thoughts?
of course, this depends on Dirk and the promo team's holiday schedule.

We should make a decision either way very soon so folks don't
waste their time backporting to the 4.3 branch.
